India and South Korea reaffirm defence equipment collaboration

Jon Grevatt, Bangkok
- IHS Jane's Defence Weekly

29 December 2014

South Korea and India have reaffirmed a commitment to collaborate in defence production, it was announced on 29 December.

A statement issued following the India-South Korea joint commission in Seoul said co-operation in defence equipment and technology holds "considerable possibilities".

In addition, the two countries also agreed to enhance collaboration in sectors including shipbuilding, electronics, energy and infrastructure development. The statement said South Korea and India were also keen to deepen co-operation in cyber security and civilian nuclear energy.

Leading the Indian delegation, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj invited South Korean companies across all sectors to invest in India and transfer technologies to local companies as part of New Delhi's 'Make in India' policy to develop indigenous capabilities.

I beleive that South Korea is leader in Ship building...India should collaborate for tech transfer related arrangement with South Korea.

India has a mature ship building industry too. I think India should join the KF-X program with South Korea and Indonesia.

SK would be keen to get the missile technology from India.
SK could offer their subs to India too.
