Sorry for the late reply, I wasn't available......
Anyway, when I read your reply, I couldn't stop laughing, I haven't seen such ridiculous and childish arguments in a long time......
Govt. is supposed to GOVERN. Which means ensure the Law is implemented in the land. Whatever the law. Society forms the law as per its own value system....
I didn't say, govt. is not supposed to govern/ensure law and order BUT they're not supposed to act as the guardian/moral police......
As long as one person is not harming the other, no law is broken and the govt./society should not interfere.....
When someone is consuming alcohol, he/she is not harming anybody directly, therefore there is no logic in banning alcohol.....if the society/govt. does so, then they are being
repressive....and it doesn't help in any way....
People should be responsible for their own deeds, but they rarely are. That is why we need the police and the Judiciary. That is why we have wars. Because people REFUSE to take responsibilities for their own action.
You didn't understand the premise of my argument....
When I said people should be responsible for their own deeds, I meant, under the influence of alcohol, if someone does something wrong/harm others, then he/she should be held responsible for it and the police and judiciary must take proper action.....
Now, you may say, banning alcohol would reduce crimes which are committed under the influence of alcohol,
but, not everybody commits crime under alcoholic influence, infact, majority does not......and those few who cannot control themselves under alcoholic influence must be held responsible for their own act,
why should the majority(who just want to relax and can control themselves) suffer an alcohol ban for those minorities
??.....
It does not matter how much "mature" a society gets. India is one of the oldest civilization and societies in the world. It does not get any more "mature" than this.
What a childish argument....
India is one of the oldest civilization and hence our basic culture and beliefs are one of the oldest and by now we would have obviously matured, BUT our history is full of foreign invasions, foreign cultures got mixed with our culture many times, these cultural upheavals take time to settle down, just 67 yrs ago the British left us and we're still coping with the culture shock....the fight between the British/western 'liberating' culture and our own 'conservative' culture is still on.....and it will take time to settle down.....
The most interesting fact is that the Indian culture was not so conservative, it became so in order to protect itself from the continuous invasions of the past.....
You know since most of the prostitutes are under aged children I guess we should make sex with children also legal so that we do not appear like hypocrites and a repressive state.
After all no point in repressing what cannot be repressed.
lol, another bizarre argument....
Of course there is no point in repressing what cannot be repressed.....but there has to be certain logical rules, like, you have to be sure whether the thing you're not repressing is harming anyone or not and/or whether someone is forced to do it or not, if it does, then it has to be repressed.
As I said earlier, when you're consuming alcohol, you're not harming anyone directly and you're matured and doing so at your own free will, so, there is no logical reason to ban/repress it.....
On the contrary, we believe that, children are incapable of taking his/her own decision and can be persuaded/forced easily, therefore, involving them in almost all the professions is illegal.....like
Child-labour is illegal in all professions, still, children are being illegally used in many, like farming etc......does that mean, farming should be banned??....
or.....action should be taken against using child-labour in farming!!......the later is a more logical approach and is usually done BUT according to your logic, if farming is not banned and since some people use child-labour in farming, child-labour must be made legal.....and if child-labour is illegal, then farming should be banned since some people use child-labour in farming....

...You understand the illogic in your argument
??...
Like alcohol, there is no logical reason to ban prostitution
but children cannot be allowed because they're deemed incapable of deciding for themselves.....that's why there is this age limit for alcohol consumption as well....
