In a surprise, PIA sales jumps to Rs 9.5 billion in October 2018
ISLAMABAD: After shifting from SABRE to the next generation Passenger Services System (PSS) HIT IT, the value of sales of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) reached approximately Rs 9.5 billion in October.

Talking to APP, a PIA official said the national airlines shifted from SABRE to HIT IT on September 12.

PIA was using the old system SABRE from last 18 years, but now as the information technology has totally changed in past few years offering even more opportunities for better customer service therefore shifting to HIT IT was a good step on part of PIA , he said.

He said PIA’s new PSS will not only help the airline upgrade its technology to meet global benchmarks, but will also help streamline its operations, augment its service offerings, reduce costs by half at least and will create opportunities and improve PIA’s passenger experience.

The official said PIA employees are getting control and expertise of the new system with every passing day and the operational efficiency is improving fast.

In October 2018, a total of 13,292 flights were operating and not even a single flight was cancelled due to system change, he said.

He said the value of sales were approximately Rs 9.5 billion in October and the total tickets sold in the system were 5,61,778.

I will get the info about the new system but I know that PIA spent 100s of million of dollars on SABRE because a lot of huge kickbacks were involved. One cannot imagine the scale of corruption in PIA. I recently visited PIA's website and found it to be really impressive and on par with the webportal of any top airline so I'm really happy and also a friend told me that

You can have the best planes and the best routes, but if the staff manning these planes are not professional then nothing is going to change. Youtube is full of videos where the staff are behaving so unprofessionally.

As @PakSword has mentioned many times, we need to include ethics as a subject in school and i agree with him.

Just changing the online booking system does not make sales jump, I know for a fact PIA has a very high (almost 100%) occupancy rate. Someone has stopped siphoning off money to avoid arrest and trying to attribute the jump in revenue to the system change. This needs a thorough investigation/audit.

Agree 100%. The fear of PTI and its anti corruption drive is being felt. Even in AJK our dodgy politicians are busy trying to cover thier tracks, in case PTI win in AJK.

I agree. PTI in AJK is a joke. I assume the fear is the election will be rigged like they have been in the past. Not that it makes a distance, in our part at least the voting is done entirely along caste lines or muhajir/non mujajir lines.
