FNSS unveiled its Pars 4x4 armoured combat vehicle at the IDEF 2015 defence exhibition in Istanbul on 5 May.

The vehicle is the first-ever 4x4 developed by FNSS and has been designed as a company venture for the wheeled component of the Turkish Land Forces' Anti-Tank Vehicle requirement. The cab of the vehicle is protected against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats.

The vehicle offers an amphibious capability without any preparation, and at 1.9 m high is designed to have a low profile and reconnaissance capabilities - all within a package with greater internal volume than competing designs, FNSS company officials told IHS Jane's at IDEF. In total the vehicle is 5 m long and 2.5 m wide.

The vehicle displayed at IDEF was armed with an Aselsan SARP remote-controlled turret (RCT) equipped with a 12.7 mm H2 Browning machine gun. Company officials said that the Pars 4x4 can also be armed with a range of different unmanned turret options, including an RCT armed with anti-tank guided weapons (ATGWs) or an RCT armed with a 20 mm or 25 mm automatic cannon.

Company officials also said that the Pars 4x4 had been designed to provide good protection against ballistic threats, mines, and improvised explosive devises. The precise level of protection is intended to be variable based on customer requirements. Similarly the vehicle's engine is optional based on requirements, as is the armour level needed (and thus the weight of the vehicle), although the intention is for the Pars 4x4 to be powered by a diesel engine offering 25-30 bhp per tonne of vehicle weight.

Although the vehicle's weight will depend on customer's required armour package, the Pars 4x4 is designed to be air-transportable in a Boeing CH-47 Chinook helicopter, or fixed-wing aircraft from the Lockheed Martin C-130H Hercules upwards.

The Pars 4x4 carries up to five crew members and comes in both a two-door and five-door configuration; the vehicle on display at IDEF 2015 being in a five-door configuration. The vehicle also features a fully independent double wishbone suspension system, hydro-pneumatic brakes, a central tyre inflation system, and run-flat tyres. The Pars 4x4 features all-wheel offroad drive, with the vehicle able to switch to two-wheel drive when on roads. Two directional propellers at the rear provide up to 8km/h maximum speed when in water.

PARS 4x4 great platform. We expect with 30mm turret.
