During the airshow, Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal PV Naik addressed the media in a press conference and thanked them for the excellent coverage of the Aero India 2011. He answered myriad questions from various media persons and defence journalists. Following is the extract of the press conference in Q&A format.

Q. What about old Russian aircraft MiG-21?

A: We have already started phasing out Mig-21 fighters. Only one squadron is left for the phase out. From 2014-2015 onwards we’ll start refurbishing our strength.

You can but 2010 is not safest year for IAF.
IAF will retire Migs by 2017 so i am seeing any improvement in IAF crash record in next 10 years.

Of the 793 MiG-21s inducted into IAF since 1963, over 350 have been lost in accidents '' said defence minister A K Antony in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. IAF has recorded 40 crashes in just the last three years.

End of the MiG era by 2017, says Antony - The Times of India

two vendors in the sense order being split between two aircrafts like f18 and ef

hmm, in my opinion that wd be foolish thing to do. it wont make sense. you wd have two sets of production facilities set up in HAL. TWO second line servcing set up at air force. two sets of ground equipments. the vendor will charge u high cas orders r less so unit price will go up. training will have to be planned for two different planes.

wat we can do, is to ask vendor to produce at a faster rate and advance our induction date post contract. we might have to shell out extra money for that but it wouldnt not as much as compared to first option.

Here you go....

i will get back to u on this.lemme ask my flyboy friends.

the solution is ordering 200+ gripen ng fighters and faster production of SU 30 MKI.
Gripen is cheap, we could order some to solve our immediate problem and i think the production rate of su30 is proposed to increase.

if we order gripen, we will again be indirectly dependent on US which wont be great. so in my opinion it will be either eurofighter only.

it is damn expensive plane and it is joint co-op with many countries.... am worried if relation with any one if these countries got worse where will go for spares and upgrades....

and one thing is sure we cant simply get away from the hands of uncle sam on MMRCA.. because they desperatley trying to steal this deal.. so there is high chance deal will split and Super horny will fly in tri colour..

Since you ( WJ) often say you know someone in the PAF, how about posting comparable data for PAF too? Try to give links too. Avoid paintings and cartoons.

Thanks in advance.
Albeit, a link to "Rung Dey Basanti" was in my mind,;) however, I didn't had to make any long distant calls either, since I came across some comparative data in this very forum. Please find the attached links.

And as a tribute to PAF's Air and Ground Crews.

See , you had so many days to come with an answer and you came up with this......!

Ok, firstly if you look closely at your calendar you will see that we are in Feb. 2011. And the entire basis of one link that you sent (Myth_buster_1) is a 'Bharat-Rakshak' article from 2000 !!

The analysis in the Bharat-rakshak article says ( WJ, you should have read it before re-posting it here) that the attrition rate of the PAF is much WORSE than the IAF . How does that support your claims? This article actually makes you look bad.

Also this Myth_buster performs some more misguided analysis of his own. The caliber of this analysis can be assessed by this phrase " IAF fixed-rotor wings aircraft" . Do such aircraft exist?

You are proving time and time again ( in every thread that we have met) that I should not ask you anything about PAF or anyone there, nor ask PAF related questions such as what is the attrition rate. Thats ok, I never expected much truth or logic from you anyway.

Please go ahead now and post some oil paintings and water colors.
