IAF chief: Contract for 75 Pilatus PC-7 basic trainers by end of this month. Contract awaiting final approval from Finance Ministry.

so we are not going to get rid off mig-21 until mmrca or lca induction in IAF.
We can't! We need the numbers on ground, never mind if these 'flying coffins' continue to kill our brave pilots! We need to show we have 34 squadrons in the ledger books.

So, Co<k-a-doodle-doo! Any crap will do!! Jeeeez! :cheesy:

Would it be that simple? Have 34 squadrons because that is the law. I would be interested to know how these military types think in this matter.

there's more
IAF chief: #MMRCA bids to be opened in third week of October. Final meeting by acquisition council on Oct 7 to sort out any issues.

IAF chief: We have the funds for the #MMRCA programme. There will be a realignment in committed liabilities.

IAF chief: Final operational clearance for LCA Tejas delayed by one full year. :'(

IAF chief: We plan to induct the FGFA/PAK-FA as 166 single-seaters and 48 twin-seaters.(surprise surprise)

i do not know why we are not inducting more and more su-30MKI
we are able to manufacture them in India..saves lots of time..

what 166+48??????

We're already inducting 272 mkis and by the time the delivery ends - delivery of 214 pakfas will start( another heavy class plane ) - having too many of this class is really expensive and requires very high maintenance. We need lighter weight aircraft as well ( there's a reason why theres a M in MMRCA and a L in LCA)

We'll have retired a lot of mig 21s by 2014 - i dont think there'll be anything except the bisons left.
By 2014 we will have - 210 su 30
40 lca
63 mig 29
51 m2k
120-jaguar
100-mig 27
Total 584 - which is 32 sqds so only 2 sqd of mig 21 bisons will be left and they along with the remaining mig 27s will be phased out as deliveries of mmrca and su 30s continue

Even more:
IAF Chief: Mirage 2000 weapons contract for MICA missiles to be signed this month or the next.(yippee :D)

IAF chief showers praise on @LockheedMartin for early delivery of C-130Js. Says IAF receiving benefit of Rs 400 crore less on followon 6.

IAF chief: Will maintain 34 fighter squadrons no matter what. No. 17 sqn to be phased out, will have Su-30s. #MMRCA deliveries by 2014.

No-17 squadron is Golden arrows.
