“I’m ready to take any risk” to establish peace in region: Hasina

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday voiced her strong stance to eradicating terrorist and militant activities from Bangladesh whatever it costs to establish peace in the region.

“I am ready to face any sort of risk to my personal life for the sake of establishing peace in the region. I won’t tolerate any terrorism or militancy, nor allow doing so in any other country using the soil of Bangladesh,” she said.

Hasina announced her strong resolve at the inaugural session of the two-day Asia Pacific Peace Conference at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city.

The inaugural session of the conference, organized by Bangladesh Peace Council, was chaired by its president former Water Resources Minister Abdur Razzak.

Representatives from different countries including Palestine, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Vietnam, Bhutan, India, Australia and Nepal also spoke on the occasion.

The Prime Minister said that she herself and her party Awami League always stood against any sort of terrorism and militancy. “I am firmly committed not to allow any sort of militancy and terrorism in the country or outside the country using the soil of Bangladesh.”

Mentioning that terrorism and militancy now pose a great threat to the world peace, she said: “This should be stopped with iron hand. There is no scope for compromise in this regard.”

Hasina said one cannot fight against terrorism and militancy alone. There should be a combined effort.

She urged the world community to engage in a collective effort for eradicating all elements against the peace.

In this connection, the Prime Minister mentioned that poverty is the main enemy of peace. “Sometimes poverty gives birth to terrorism and militancy. We should also work together to fight against the poverty,” she said.

She said poverty and peace cannot live together. Apart from that, it is also important to establish democracy and human rights.

She criticized the developed countries for spending huge amount in producing arms and ammunition. “If you slightly reduce your expenses in this sector, it is possible to improve the living standard of around nine billion poor people across the world,” she said.

Hasina urged all to cooperate with each other to establish peace and ensure basic rights of the people around the world.

In this context, she reiterated the government’s stand regarding the people of Palestine and said: “We are always beside Palestine… brothers and sisters of Palestine, we are beside you.”

The Prime Minister said Bangladesh is in favor of establishing peace in the globe and is committed to contributing its utmost for establishing peace around the world.

About the trial of war criminals in Bangladesh, she said that it is not possible to establish peace in the country without ensuring rule of law. “The trial is on to establish rule of law in the country.”

Valid statement that a country cannot host or spread terrorism.

But will Bangladesh be able to do so, given that there are all sorts who make up the population?

Bangladesh luckily does not have any significant religious extremism and long may it stay that way. Muslims, Hindus and buddhists should all feel secure and be able to enjoy the peace and prosperity of the country into the future

She played wayyy too much Commando back then on ATARI, when she was a kid I guess.

Nice attempt to make yourself look better Hasina

Well if the nerve was touched a wee bit more, then there was always means to bring people to their senses by the neighbour!

Given your post, it appears you support or are in league with the terrorists.

well done!!

Are you suggesting all Bangladeshis men or women should only play with dolls?

Good show.

I think that should be the aim of existence anywhere.

But observer the cheer leaders of Harkat-ul-Jihad-al Islami Bangladesh (HuJI-B), Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladesh (JMJB), Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS).

They find anti terrorist speeches hurting their sensibilities!!

I second that. There is not much of those issues in BD,which are hindrance to a progressive nation anyways.BD has done significant progress in recent times and has proved to the World that it is capable of taking a bigger role. All that I can say is keep up the good work.

I doubt it will stay the same if Al persist it course to wipe out Islamic values from constitution and Bangladesh. If extremism rise in Bangladesh then it will because of Awami league. :disagree:

Had I been a Bangladeshi I would simply voted against Awami League even if it just to let this guy have one moment of peace.God...He must have been spending sleepless nights since AL has been in power.

Jo Garazte hain woh baraste nahin.

They do not even return to the homeland, even if they find their homeland in a critical state and they think it is time to force in a change.

All gobgas from the safety of foreign shores and crocodile tears hoping others should die in the confrontation and they (the foreign shore John Waynes) reap the harvest!

Militancy is a bogus issue when it comes to Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina should concentrate more on what RAB and BCL is doing in the country.
