Haha interesting. I have heard about some other fancy bullets as well. Perhaps it will be the bullet of choice for future snipers but in today's world it is not that much of a cost effective solution. ( Chriss Kyle killed 300 with ordinary bullets.)

I find the observer's job very interesting, he tracks the signature of bullet to see if it has hit the spot and also alerts and tells sniper of an alternate target incase the first bullet did not hit the target. But a sniper's motto is "one bullet one target". And usually sniper is the team leader. I hope @jhungary could add to this.

A one bullet-one target is rarely possible. A sniper is different and designated marksman is different. Snipers will try to be located as far as possible and the distance makes accurate shooting very difficult. That's why the target must be carefully selected. At times the sniper waits in his "hide-out" for hours/days and at other times the sniper has to "stalk" his target like a jungle predator stalks his prey for days.

Many people think sniping is very easy, lie on the ground-aim-shoot. I used to think like that as well.

It is the most difficult job in the infantry. You have to remain in a constant state of high alert for hours at stretch, one miss and you might end up dead. Sniping is risky.

In the hands of a well trained sniper such a bullet will be cost effective (specially when you've high value targets on the other side, or say hostage rescue missions).

I was thinking the same .... its like 'chinto' series jokes...

Snipers and their observers usually switch places to keep an eye (the target as you may know might not show up for days).
I read a case where the sniper was worried that the wind direction would help a dog (in the enemy camp) sniff him out. Fortunately for him the wind was blowing in the other direction or something to that effect, he remained undetected and killed his target.

add some other parameters along with fear of the enemy.
Plus a moving target which is not completly exposed.
You need to be FRUSTATINGLY PATIENT to get a kill.

That's what I said. It is the most difficult job in the infantry. You can't make the slightest sound, move a single muscle and even the breathing has to be regulated so their is no disturbance.

In the hands of a well trained sniper such a bullet will be cost effective (specially when you've high value targets on the other side, or say hostage rescue missions).

Something like a "Special purpose round". Will be issued only to a select few in extremly limited quantities.
