(CNN)The Chinese government's carefully constructed narrative around its Xinjiang detention centers appears to have been shattered by hundreds of pages of leaked documents published by Western media over the last two weeks.

Beijing has long insisted that its vast camps are voluntary "vocational training centers," where people learn job skills and are then free to leave.

Yet the leaks paint a grim picture of heavily fortified re-education centers, designed to turn Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities into good Chinese citizens who also speak Mandarin.
And the students can't leave until they have become just that.

There has been nothing yet to indicate the documents are fake -- both the New York Times and the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists have published the original versions or verbatim copies on their websites. Even China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not directly disputed their authenticity.

"For all its efforts at secrecy, the Chinese government can no longer hide the extent, and the reach, of its campaign of repression in Xinjiang," regional expert Adrian Zenz wrote in an opinion piece in the New York Times this week.

You ever heard about the US child detention centers?

I've heard of them. Detention of children of those (parents or otherwise) caught illegally crossing our border. Personally, very embarrassing and why congress now has rules in place not to separate children of illegal immigration from parents or guardians.

I'd love to understand how that equates to imprisoning 2 million of their own citizens, specifically and only for being Muslims? Where is the apples to apples comparison in your scenario?

Yes,undeniable fact US support Jerusalem as capital of Israel when all other nation opposed. Full support for Israel to take over Palestine land for their settlement and US got the cheek to accuse others of oppressing Muslims with fabricating lies and data.

If for 70 years, that's likely in every province in China, but you better not try to mislead people by just saying hilarious number.

What US wants in Xinjiang, Tibet and Hong kong is riots , turbulence and civil wars like they made in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan, we always know that, Hong kong now is in ruins and US is very happy about it, they don't care how people live and suffer there. but US schemes and designs can never come true in China. we are only getting stronger by the day, in another 10 year, US will complete lose this competition with China.
