Despite 5G networks not even available yet in Canada, Chinese company Huawei has confirmed to The Logic it has started researching 6G networks in Ottawa:

The Chinese tech giant is exploring 6G even before 5G technology is commercially available, and before the Canadian government has made a decision on whether telecommunications firms will be allowed to use Huawei’s equipment in building out their new networks across the country.

Huawei is in the early stages of researching 6G technology at its Kanata, Ont. lab, and is in talks with Canadian university researchers about working on development of the next-generation wireless system. The Chinese telecommunications company’s plans come as the federal government is deciding on whether to allow the company’s equipment in Canada’s 5G networks.

The Logic
says Huawei confirmed 6G research at its centre in Kanata, Ontario, to the publication. Huawei says it has also started discussions with Canadian researchers from universities about 6G.

Song Zhang, vice-president of research strategy and partnership in Canada, said “5G is very new, and looking at 6G is part of the so-called 5G evolution.” The company said its Ottawa R&D lab will help lead Huawei’s worldwide development of 6G.

he Canadian government has still yet to decide whether or not it will allow Huawei networking equipment to operate 5G in Canada. The federal government’s allies in the U.S., Australia and New Zealand have banned Huawei equipment, citing alleged ties to China’s communist government.

Canada’s 5G Huawei decision will be made after this fall’s federal election. Huawei’s CFO, Meng Wanzhou (and daughter of the company’s founder), remains held in Vancouver, after being arrested last December at the request of United States authorities, for her alleged role in breaking U.S. sanctions against Iran. The fallout of the arrest resulted in China retaliating by detaining two Canadian men and banning select Canadian imports.

The Logic also says Bell confirmed it was talking with “multiple partners” about 6G technology already, but didn’t go into specifics about whether Huawei was involved. Telus and Rogers did not comment on 6G plans.

thats the way to follow progress. i think they are following american method . just continue research to beat the competition and to give competition to others

While the US is still lagging far behind in 5G, Huawei is already doing research in the 6G domain. The other is stuck at 5G while the progressive China is working on the next generation technology. Even if US might catch up to the 5G Huawei has left the Americans behind.

Nortel had some of its biggest campuses in Ottawa. They had technologies in early 2000's which were adopted only in early 2010's shows the impact of the research. When they eventually sold company assets due to bad company decisions, its campus was bought by DND. So when "Cleaning" they literally found lakhs of bugs in the building from conference halls even to smallest labs.

No wonder who did all the bugging and spying. Huawei was starting with basic network gears and communication equipments during that phase and everyone knows who grew rapidly after that. Not to say Huawei hasnt put in efforts. But the level of spying that company has employed in its growth is not something to be proud of.

How do you know it is Huawei that made the bugs? I think it is the local operator who is responsible for maintaining the net equipment, isn't it? Huawei is hardwares seller. Not the communication operator. If the hardwares are not safe, the operator would know it first.

My ex boss was a Nortel Strongman. Infact he was the guy who found a way for internet to work in mobile devices and he has some patent on it.

Nortel has a habit of wasting money in lots of research that was not required in this time and age or technologies which was not manufacturable. DND did find lots of bugs but when the techs developed by Nortel was employed by the said company in China in a few years confirmed what they have feared.

Not saying Nortel failed due to Huawei. It failed due to its own bad decisions. But Huawei didnt grow on its own. Chinese might have spied and provided the tech to Huawei as well. Its Chinese bugs and not huawei's.

I don't know much about net equipment. But even if Huawei really wants to spy someone, I think installing bugs is the most stupid choice. Techinically it is not possible because the communication operator would easily found the bugs. And I think it is not necessary because there gotta be more secret and efficient way.
