Huawei Debuts P30 Phones in Japan

China's Huawei Technologies launched its P30 smartphone series in Tokyo yesterday. Wu Bo, president of Japanese and South Korean offices, attended the ceremony where the two new models were released.

Huawei P30 Pro is expected to hit the Japanese market this summer. The Shenzhen-based firm collaborated with Germany's Leica Camera to develop a particularly strong camera for the model, capable of capturing a starry night sky.

The release comes on the heels of news about Japan's major phone operators, Softbank Group and KDDI, excluding Huawei from their fifth-generation wireless network launch, which could dampen Huawei's phone sales.

NTT Docomo, another major Japanese operator, is also considering whether it should cancel its booking of Huawei phones due to the Chinese company's new limitations to buy US chips, the Nikkei reported on May 22.

Huawei's shop looks busy and in fact, its market share has been increasing in Japan in recent years.

Huawei is making good phones, I just hope the spat with Google ends soon and the phones get regular updates.
It's not Google who has a problem with Huawei, it's the US government. Google would rather continue its relationship with Huawei, but it can't legally do so, as Huawei is on a US blacklist.

On a side note, I was seriously considering buying the P30 pro, but I can't now, because after the 3 months grace period is up, the phones will essentially be bricked, meaning no play store, and no software updates.

Well, looks like I'm gonna get another samsung phone.

No that is not true.

Everything will still work but you will get no updates from Google anymore on either Android or Google apps.

Custom ROM!

Retailer in Indonesia usually import China version of Xiaomi phones and flash it with MIUI Global ROM, to fit with the local. And not all Xiaomi models officially available on many countries, but they are everywhere, especially if you have Chinese owned phone shop in your country.

I think for someone who want Huawei phone at the same time get Google app updates, use custom ROM.

It's even much much better than the crap ROM from manufacture.

Or perhaps, Google apps is not installed on the fresh phone, but you can install Google app manually as what I do on my Chinese version of Xiaomi. There will be a lot of tutorial and download links in internet.

It's just a software anyway.

In other words, they'll be bricks. If there are no constant updates, especially when it comes to security, then to me, it's nothing more than a paper weight, because I'm not using them.

Next time, read my comment properly.

I did.

I said no more updates by Google. Huawei will push out security updates though but you may wait a little longer.

Huawei will only offer updates for 90 days, after that, they'll no longer update the phone. The 90 days was nothing more than a grace period, in order to give Huawei time to wrap their operations up.

You mean Google for 90 days I presume.

After that Huawei will push out it's own security updates for phones.
They have promised to do that and as there is an open source version of Android they have every right.

No,

1) Huawei is no longer allowed to sell or operate products within the US, so it legally can't do so.

2) Huawei will be cut off from the version of Android that current Huawei phones use. So Huawei will not be legally allowed to provide updates to its Android based phones.

In other words, no security updates from Huawei either.
