Purpose of this visit was to negotiate the Afghan peace process and where Pakistan stands in this. But Imran is returning with a lot more than meets the eye; he succesfully turned the chapter on the stranded US-Pak relationship, put us on the strategic map again and once again we're on US' good books without even asking for it.
And Kashmir was mentioned which has set whole indian media on fire.

When PM Khan visited China last year, his minions screamed, "look, look, Imran Khan got a photo shoot with the Chinese businessmen, wow, just wow." However, the PM came home empty-handed and only a promise to help Pakistan.

A year later, Pakistan has so far received some chanda from China thanks to PM Khan's intense negotiations.

Now, the PM visited the US on a three-day visit. What for? What exactly did he achieve? What economic, trade negotiations were discussed exactly?

Last year, President Trump accused Pakistan of being a bad boy and disrespecting his country. However, he has now announced in front of PM Khan, well done, you're now a good boy and you've learnt to respect America.

Did the PM only go there just to get a shabaash?

Fair comment, but please keep in mind that USA goes more by due process than by personality cult, much to the chagrin of the current President.

You mean the establishment. I understand that but if tectonic events had NOT already taken place behind closed doors do you really think this 'meet up' would have happened? Not on yer nelly.

Point being is what your seeing is merely exposition of the understanding that has emerged already within US establishment. We are seeing publicly what has been slowly going on behind the scenes. If the entire US establishment was like it was few years ago PMIK would not get pass the US Customs and Immgration at Dulles Airport. Notice while PMIK was being dined and wined at White House with a flirty showing by the first lady Melanie our Gen. Bajwa was recieving 21 gun salutes at Pentagon. This all tells me that US establishment is on the 'same page' as Trump, PMIK and our military.

I never thought it was fickle. I am of the view that in the big sceme of thinks Pakistan got as much out of USA as USA got out of Pakistan ~ if 70 year ledger account was ever prepared. Indeed had there been no USA I think Pakistan as you see it today would not exist. A bit like that small fish that latches on to sharks to sustain itself, Pakistan did with USA. I think the ledger account would show + in 1960s, even in 1970s, + in 1980s, even in 1990s, minus in 2000s and now I hope we can even it out if not place it in + category.

We should aim to stand on our own feet and not be in this camp or that camp. Despite China and US having acrimonious relationships their trade volume in 2018 was worth $660 billion!

Impatience is never good in Statecraft!

The idea in statecraft is to make sure first your relevant. Secondly to make sure you have plenty of alternatives which allows you to extract the maximum. It's like you go buy a car. If you open negotiations with bunch of dealers you can play them off and extract the best deal. If the dealer knows you have no other option they will instead gouge you. Iran has done that brilliantly. It has made itself redundant by having no options. It has almost annoyed everybody and become estranged from all. Even when countries like India diod engage it they screwed Iran because they knew Iranians are isolated.

PMIK by going to Iran, to China, to KSA, UAE and now USA has managed to keep differant options on the table and extract something from all of them. Even in White House notice PMIK remained mum when Trump went on his tirade against Iran. That left Iran still on his table.

Guys really this visit has been a high mark in Pakistan's recent history that we rarely get to see. When I heard these three 'bombs' by Trump go off I could not help but laugh.

• Modi asked me [Trump] to mediate over Kashmir. This was mother of all bomb that hit New Delhi sending that country into howls.
• I have plans on my table can wipe out Afghanistan in 10 days. This was mother of all bomb that hit President Ghani's arse sending it flying in the sky.
• Iran is a cheat and liar. But Pakistan is not like that. Pakistani's are tough, bright people.

I don't care which party people support but this must have made you guys chuckle ....????
