We always hear that Lahore and Karachi are disproportionately developed to the other cities. But how developed are they compared to the western cities?

As a Lahori, I concur!

Lahore is not developed by any standard. Shahbaz's strategy was to throw money at wasteful projects without any foresight. The Orange line is a big eye sore. Any one traveling on the Main Boulevard in Gulberg curses the Urban Planning Ministry (doubt we have one) every single day. Ditto for Canal Road where you are weaving into and out of traffic when entering / exiting the tunnels (ok this was under Chaudhary brothers).

Outer access roads are a mess with big potholes, hell you have 6 inch potholes right in the middle of Ferozpur road near Walton. Haphazard construction with no rules for land use. Anyone can put up a 10 floor plaza on a 5 marla house.

Kon kehta hai Lahore developed hai? Lita k littar maro use.

LDA under successive govts, especially under the N League, really did little more than annoy the average citizen, make a lot of money for its corrupt officers and play around with rules to give massive investment incentives to the Sharif family. Pathetic, rotten organization.

Yet if you want to legally sell your house/plot and transfer it, you'll be met with such impressive hurdles that you'll wonder how all the illegal construction all around you happened....

No Pakistani city will come close to any western city.

But Lahore is far better than Karachi. It used to be a lot worse. But roads, bridges, etc have improved. But it is a lot more crowded and polluted.

Lahore after rain was like a giant swimming pool but municipality generally does a better job now.

Roads, bridges etc infrastructure is good but we needed more industrialisation, IT parks(silicon valley) etc.

"Lahore/Punjab has eaten all the funds" is akin to the propoganda that "Army eats up all the budget."

Absolutely.

I was referring to the downward trend in upkeep and cleanliness of ISB. It's truly depressing. Even the upscale areas have garbage heaps and burning openly. Scary times.

Islamabad was good in early 2000s until 2010. Now it has all kinds of people gand machaing in there. Kinda like Lahore. I mean the whole point of a city is to have all kinds of people in it. But they should contribute to it rather than ruining it's infrastructure and municipalities are also responsible for this decline as well.

Absolutely --- and this may be politically incorrect but Islamabad spreading to D-12 and beyond really created mini congested quasi-slums that are unbecoming of the capital. CDA should have kept Islamabad up to sector 10 (or MAYBE 11.)
