100% Let's be honest, China is not perfect. It's not Luxembourg or Switzerland or whatever. But the reality is that if there are some issues in China that infringe on the rights of expression or civil rights of Uyghurs or some Hui Muslims in China, it is NOT because China is anti-Muslim, it is because China is very strict on separatism and also very wary of any form of religious extremism. This also goes for Christianity in China, Buddhism, even domestic cults like Falungong. In other words, unlike in Modi's India, where the BJP specifically wants to lynch Muslims, China's issues have more to do with separatism and extremism in order to maintain political stability. The government not only censors Uyghurs who issue hate speech against Han Chinese, but they also do the same, and censor Han Chinese who might instigate hate speech against Uyghurs. This is how China maintains general political stability. On top of that, China also offers a lot of carrots like jobs, infrastructure, education to the Uyghurs and other minorities so they are more focused on positive things like becoming prosperous, etc instead of focusing on negative things like ethnic hatred or separatism. When you understand these realities, you will understand why most of the police, military and administration in Xinjiang are actually made up of Uyghurs and other minorities who are integrated and invested enough in the system to keep it stable.
The problem with these articles is that they always magnify, blow up or exaggerate or many times even fabricate issues about China in order to distract from incredibly horrible and evil acts they themselves are committing in the Muslim world, Africa or South America and elsewhere. Israel is literally blowing up kids but the news wants you to think some guideline in a local building ordinance in some no name city in China is the epitome of all evil. It's actually ridiculous to the extreme when you compare the two situations and understand what they are doing.
