It looks like the Houthis/Ansarullah and allied Yemen army had been observing parts of Najran province where the Saudi forces were not well-entrenched. They moved their forces at night and surrounded those forces. They closed all exit and entry points, and then started ambushing them during the morning. The lack of helicopter support and the small number of Saudi prisoner of war (pow) do explain this theory. What can also be understood from this video is that majority of pows look Yemenis, which explains the fact that either that area is neglected or the Saudi military leaders were not expecting the Houthis/Ansarullah/Allied Yemeni army from taking this bold action of surrounding that area.

Nevertheless, this was a bold action on the Houthis part - one that strengthens their position at the negotiation table and speeds up the quest to find a solution to this unnecessary conflict.
