Holi greetings via Punjab Police

Its a festival of joy and forgiving old enmities.

Open for everyone who believes in human happiness. This part is not limited to any religion, it transcends it.

We don't know to educate Pakistanis about what goes on in India. We all know who celebrates or not celebrates Holi in India. Couldn't care less about what some random has to to say on a virtual forum.

What nonsense? I am not aware of Holi being celebrated by Muslims. Can any Indian Muslim verify his claim?

You are not aware of most of the thing and those are nonsense to you. Holi is just more than a festival everyone including Muslims celebrate it. I had many Muslim classmates and few friends we all celebrated Holi together.

Hindus, Muslims celebrate 'Holi Baraat'

LUCKNOW: Hundreds of Hindus and Muslims celebrated Holi together by taking out the decades-old procession 'Holi Baraat' -- to send out a message of peace and brotherhood on Sunday.

Accompanied by decorated horse chariots, the revellers danced to the beats of drums amidst ecstatic shouts of 'Holi Hai!'.

Those seated on the chariots threw gulal or coloured powder as the procession passed through different areas of the Chowk.

"Holi Baraat is one of the oldest processions in the city. It's just not a procession but a festive mix of communities to spreads the message of brotherhood," Lucknow mayor Dinesh Sharma told reporters here.

Muslims in the Chowk locality traditionally make a stockpile of rose petals and garlands on Holi eve. They shower the flowers on Hindus as they come out for the Holi Baraat.

"For 42 years we have celebrated Holi in this manner. You can say it has become a tradition. Muslims shower petals on us. In response, we garland them," Chowk resident Vivek Tangri said.

The procession starts from the Koneshwar Temple passes through various localities of Old Lucknow as more and more people join the festivities.

"As the procession continues, Muslims welcome the Hindus by offering sweets and paan," said Shahdab, who owns a garment store in Chowk area.

Interestingly I used to go to mosque to light a diya as my grandmother advised that if you had a wish, go to mosque and pray to God and light a diya. There was a corner place allocated for keeping diya. Mainly it was for lighting purpose as there was no electricity, of course it had a reward as well, now it is extinct with the invent of electricity, some dargahs still have diyas and its oil is considered healing the sick.

Holy is a festival of not just colors but colors of truth and divinity. It is very much in the core of Sufism.

btw we have come too far so back to topic, my question which festival keeps Punjab police busiest enthusitically?

You are quite correct there in that point. As a matter of fact, Holi is not just confined to being a Hindu festival, because there is no Hindu rituals attched to it. The essential acts in Holi celebration is a communal burning of a bonfire and the communal playing with colors. Both are symbolic acts, the first denotes burning of the evil in people and society; while the other symbolises introduction of joy and hope in the community. And there are scriptural rituals involved. The message is universal. Just as Sufism is universal and its values apply to all humankind across religious beliefs.
