PDF is banned because the chaos, which only benefit US. Anyone in China can use VPN to access PDF and all other websites.

Animal Farm and many others are in the other category, the logic is as below:
1, China was in a vulnerable position in international environment. The west conquered most of the continent, grab most of the resources, developed technologies and much richer for the past 200 years.
2, China is catching up but it will take many years since 1949. And time proved we made it.
3, China has instability issues like almost all the developing countries which was founded after WW2.
4, China, Russia and a few other countries are the few which has potential to challenge US/west dominance.

Basically China will focus on development, information control to some extent is needed to keep stable.

Instability/dissolution of China caused 20%+ death of total population in history. The most humanity way is keeping China stable.

CCP main goal is promoting Chinese living standard, provide as many decent jobs as possible, while keep China stable.

Most of those political books, films, are just tactic developed during Cold War. It successfully dismembered USSR, and China is no fool.

For those countries opened their door to west political influence, I would say "Good luck".

Btw, I knew those books, films long before I moved to US. It's nothing new, easy to access as long as you want it. Smart Chinese disgust those crap.

Hong kong gave up nothing, they had no freedom to start with before 1997 under British rule, all the freedom and election system they get was granted to them by the Chinese government takeover after 1997.

Agree. The dissolution was caused by many things, but still info war was one of the most important. A book or movie is just one sand of the beach.
