Bengaluru: A married Hindu-Muslim couple were allegedly denied a room at Olive Residency on Annipuram Main Road in Sudhama Nagar.

Shafeek Subaida Hakkim and Divya DV, who hail from Kerala, had visited Bengaluru for some work. However, when they were looking for an accommodation at Olive Residency, the staff allegedly refused to provide a room as they belonged to different religions.

Shafeek has alleged that the receptionist categorically told them since he was a Muslim and his wife Divya a Hindu, they can't be given a room on rent.
However, while speaking to news agency ANI, the receptionist denied the accusation saying, there was a problem of luggage and ID proofs, and teh couple wasn't refused a room because of religion.

The hotel owner claimed that Shafeeq and Divya didn't tell us that they were married.

"They initially demanded a room for half-an-hour, when we refused, they demanded for a day," the owner said.

Some hotels are strict on renting out rooms unless you can convince them you are a married couple
I have first hand experience. My wife and I had different last names.

It was the couples mistake! they should have stated that they were married in the beginning itself and provided the proof. Any hotel in the subcontinent would not allow couples who are not married to each other.
Any hotel ? Travel india a bit.

This happen because girls was Hindu and Sanghi can't digest this.

U cant get a room anywhere down south especially if we are under 30 or 35 provided are married or show some marriage certificate. ID is must. Though its not really business of owners to check if the couple is really married or no, they have to face police trouble against prostitution.

Its completely fair on the part of hotel management to ask for marriage certificate and ID

Big establishments in Bangalore don't allow couples in general without proof of marriage.

Police raid low end hotels all the times because of this , couple's rent rooms for sex , cops & hotel's don't want any prostitution in their area.

This is the same even in Kerala .

I'm from Bangalore , I've travelled to 17 states .

Apart from low end hotels/motels across the highway , nearly all enquire about your relationship.

The only states that didn't ask any questions was misoram and arunanchal Pradesh.

Not really. My friend regularly stays in Bengaluru Hotels with his girl friend and they have never been asked about both of their id proofs (one is sufficient). And these are mostly at least 3-4 star hotels.

Tough luck! Most of the hotels in India need proofs if you are staying with your partner. If you can't convince them you are married they will ask you to bugger off!
