Hillary hints at cutting Pak aid

US Aid in close to a $1 billion dollars and the tax system can be fixed and making up for a $1 billion is not a very hard target. When the GOP will see the cash crunch they will start cracking down.

No one is saying that the Aid they are giving is greater than any other income. You also should consider the help they provided you to get IMF loans cleared.

I have a Rumsfeld video posted on this forum where he says something like that: 'Cutting aid to Pakistan may make us feel good for, may be, 10 minutes. We did that before in Pressler Amendments. The result was that we lost touch with a whole generation of Pakistan military officials.'
Truer words have not been spoken.

But, please, cut the aid.
And I don't even say this in the way most people say that because these people think the aid ends in 'corrupt' military and political circles. I think the aid greatly helps in Pakistani defense capabilities viz a viz India--it has since the 50s. I also think the aid helps Pakistani forces conduct large scale military operations against the militants like done in SWAT in 2009.
But so long as the Pakistani forces seem to be getting the 'aid' they will look like doing 'America's bidding'. No end to the war.

Should cut off aid especially considering military equipment was never used to fight the terrorists but to prepare for another war with India which ain't happening anytime soon.

It never reaches the common Pakistani so it makes no difference to Pakistani people. Yes, maybe the corrupt politicians may cry seeing a reduction in their pay check. Maybe this will force them to make an independent foreign policy that is in the interest of Pakistan.

So at the end, this cut in aid will be a blessing in disguise for Pakistan.
