Ravan itself was not evil. He was great scientist and intelligent of his time. His 10 heads also means that he knew about 10 directions. He was also kind ruler of his kingdom and people of his kingdom also loved him as their king. He was also the great worshiper of God Shiv. But he did a misdeed he stole Ram's wife in order to take revenge for his sister. He never ever touched Sita nor he did any misdeed to her. After killing Ravan, Ram himself prayed to God to Place him in Heaven.
