Hanoi, Saigon hotel rooms cheaper only than Singapore’s

Hotel room rates in Hanoi and HCMC, at around $110 a night, are the second most expensive in Southeast Asia behind only Singapore.


Real estate services firm CBRE Vietnam said at a recent conference that the performance of the four- and five-star hotel segments was very strong in 2018 due to limited supply but constantly increasing demand.

By the end of the year the average rent in this segment reached $112.6 in Hanoi and $114.1 in HCMC.

High-end rooms in Hanoi number 7,770, of which two thirds are in the five-star category, and their average occupancy rate last year was 78.4 percent.

Most of them are concentrated in the downtown area and Ba Dinh, a central district where most government offices and embassies are located.

CBRE said in recent years sharing economy models like AirBnB have been trending, with AirBnB supply in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City topping 24,000 units compared to 17,500 four- to five-star hotel rooms.

"However, despite the rapid growth of this model, room-sharing has not a clear impact on business in the four-five-star segment."

As of 2017 there were 118 five-star hotels/resorts in Vietnam, almost twice the number in 2013.

They had an occupancy rate of over 75 percent, 5 percentage points up from 2016, according to global consulting firm Grant Thornton.

Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) statistics show an upsurge in the number of foreign visitors to Vietnam in the last few years. Last year 15.5 million came to the country, a 20 percent rise from 2017.

Yes five stars are expensive but cheaper than Singapore.

Vietnam have more to offer than Singapore.
I am sure Vietnam can do better than us, now that war mongering colonizing Western powers have left.

Hopefully Vietnam can resolve its differences with its northern neighbor soon.
If Europe can do it after WW1 and WW2, Asia can do it too.

Hotels are good n well maintained.i did not fell hotels to cost on higher side .i visited last year...i regreat i could spend only one day in ho chin ming city..hapenning city

Oh I don’t think Vietnam will ever catch up with Singapore, forgetting we can do better. Your country has the people with the right mind. As for peace with our northern neighbor, I am optimistic. Vietnamese are usually pragmatic people. We will never go too far to cut all bridges. Vietnam is always the first that gives the hand of friendship to former enemies.

thats wrong, we can build nice building like in Singapore-HK in many provinces, but Sing has a special location in Malacca strait, so she naturally attrack more bussiness men and tourist than VN.

Building infrastructure is actually easy as long as you have the capital. Look at the Middle East, many countries can build more beautiful airports or more extensive metro than us. Even Lee Kuan Yew said on multiple occasions that building infrastructure is easy because engineers/architects can do their jobs. What's difficult is to change the people's mindset and build up institutions which will endure long after him to run the country. It's not like playing SimCity.

Not knocking nor mocking, but just saying Vietnam economic progress is too slow.

Cannot compare as Vietnam was dealt a bad hand.
Coming out as Vietnam did from the evil Western powers created misfortunes is remarkable.

Outcomes would be very different had the French not been so evil and greedy.
Cowardly and greedy French, humiliatingly defeated by the Germans in 46 days but unwilling to relinquish their colonies.
By right, Vietnam should be freed soon after WW2 similar to most other colonies.
Sadly, those countries that helped supply the US war effort in Vietnam, benefited.
