Turkish pilots will have real fear when Rafales are known to be in the area as they can be shot at without being able to respond. Meteor has the very best tech from the UK, France, Germany and Sweden incorporated into it.

The Meteor has a "no-escape zone" far greater than the AIM-120C7 and I doubt whether the Turkish AAM will be much better, if at all.

Look I want Turkey to quickly develop all the best tech but am being realistic here. France has just shown Turkey how influential it still is with it's cutting edge arms industry.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced on Saturday that Greece will buy 18 new Rafale aircraft and four frigates to address the defense needs of the country.


The Greek premier, speaking in Thessaloniki, said that the defense of the country will also be boosted through the acquisition of Romeo SH-60 Seahawk helicopters, torpedoes, anti-tank and guided missiles and the modernization of the Hydra-class frigates.


He also announced the hiring of 15,000 new professional recruits and the revitalization of the Greek defense industry.


The Rafale is a French twin-engine, multirole fighter aircraft designed and built by Dassault Aviation.


Equipped with a wide range of weapons, the Rafale is intended to perform air supremacy, interdiction, aerial reconnaissance, ground support, in-depth strike, anti-ship strike and nuclear deterrence missions. It is referred to as an “omnirole” aircraft by Dassault.

This will just incentivize Turkey to come up with ways and means to defeat the Rafale on a war footing. Increasing spending and acquisitions to quickly improve their EW equipment (their Havasoj program will almost certainly get a boost in funding and procurement in numbers), and more R&D into defeating the Meteor and Spectra with DRFM decoys, towed decoys, Loyal wingman aircraft that can fly ahead and if need be, become sacrificial targets to absorb enemy meteors while closing towards the merge where Turkey can use its indigenous BVR and High off bore sight WVR missiles and their superior training to take down these Rafales.

They can recoup their costs by selling to friendly nations like Pakistan, which is facing the same threat.
