Govt to Introduce New E-Passport System in Two Months

Directorate General Immigration and Passport has announced an innovative E-Passport System, which will be available to the masses in the next two months.

Ishrat Ali, the Director-General of Passport and Immigration made this announcement while briefing the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Interior on Wednesday.

While briefing the parliamentary body about the performance of the new system, Mr. Ishrat said, “The system has been developed at a cost of Rs. 534 million and can be described as clean, secure and fully automated.”

He informed the committee that the new system has a particular chip that would help improve security.

The DG Passport said that for the time being, the department would run both new and old systems simultaneously.

He maintained that the fee for the E-Passport is a bit higher than the regular one.

Mr. Ishrat reflected the increase of demand and said the directorate had sought an allocation of Rs. 244.73 million to establish regional passport offices in Mandi Bahauddin, Sukkur, Muzaffarabad, Sialkot, Abbottabad, and Bannu.

For the poor 4.5m+ souls living in the GCC, whose remittances are undeniable, I would like to request GoP to bring down the fees.
It is not a lot already. Especially if one does not request on urgent basis. So a little premium for a better product is justified. Govt does not earn profits on such services, but just cost of the product and sometimes even that is subsidised.

Not at all, Majority of remittances comes from poor blokes working in GCC, yet no support from the Govt. Instead of making things easier for them, irrespective of who is in power looks at screwing them over. BE it the unjustifiable taxes on airline tickets, or the Passport renewal fees. The Cherry on the cake, is the disgusting treatment they get at their embassies and consulates.

Funny thing is Imran Khan, requests MBS to bring down visa fees for Pakistanis, how about doing your part and bringing down Passport & NADRA fees, for those who earn <US$1k/mnth .
