Yes consumption expenditure is a high proportion of Pakistan's GDP at ~80%. As high as in the US which is infamous for its consumeristic culture.
Perhaps the constantly depreciating value of the rupee is one reason? It discourages saving. A culture of showing off is another one. The downside of all this spending is lack of investment in businesses that would create economic growth. The US gets foreign investment in droves to make up for its lack of domestic savings. Pakistan does not enjoy such a privileged position.
