Kazakhstan wants to develop advanced transport infrastructure to become a key part of China’s future transport network from the Pacific Ocean to the Baltic Sea.

Kazakhstan plans to invest over $20 billion by 2020 into its transportation industry to become the main transit country between the booming Chinese market and Europe, said Zhenis Kasymbek, Kazakhstan’s deputy minister of investment and development.

In 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping brought up the idea of building a new Silk Road that would connect China with Europe and strengthen cooperation between Asia and Africa. This grand project would help China to build new political ties, as well as facilitate trade and economic activity from the Pacific Ocean to the Baltic Sea.

And Kazakhstan certainly wants to be part of this colossal project, as Kasymbek said:

“The new economic policy of Kazakhstan prioritizes the development of transport infrastructure and logistics. In 2014, the state already provided more than $2.5 billion, and between 2015 and 2017 it will allocate $3 billion annually from the National Fund. Overall, we plan to invest over $20 billion by 2020 in the development of the transport industry.”

New Details of Silk Road Trade Route Boost Chinese Stock Markets

Since Kazakhstan is a landlocked nation and its economic partners may be thousands of miles away, it is crucial for the country to become successfully integrated into international transportation networks. Therefore, the new Silk Road project is of vital importance for the Central Asian nation.

According to estimates, the volume of trade between China and Europe will exceed 170 million tons by 2020. Today, the bulk of these goods are transported using water routes. Kazakhstan has set the goal of attracting the maximum amount of this trade via the land route through its own territory, the Kazakh deputy minister said.

It is really good news for China. China should ask other countries to invest their own money in the initiative as well, because that will make those countries more serious.

Also, Kazakhstan seriously needs this opportunity. It is largely land locked, and not in good company. No surrounding country of Russia likes Russia much, and though they may not express it, they always fear a Crimea hanging over their head.

This is a practical and logical direction since Kazakhstan is a large nation that shares a border with both China, Russia and the Eurasian states. The Silk Road, for countries that are land locked, is essential for trade.

China is doing a good job with integrating the region. Central Asia to the west and SE Asia to the South. In the near future, Asia would be hardly recognisable. Had this been done in South Asia, you will have millions of people protesting about the "waste of money" loooooooooool.

HMMMMMM............I have a feeling Moscow wont be happy with this news.:D

What ever do you mean? :)
Of course, you know Russia consider central Asia(of which Karzahkstan is the biggest) to be its sphere of influence/core interests, so any foreign power that dares to 'trespass/have disproportional influence' in here is unwelcome, and will certainly be dealt with appropriately the Russian way.:D

Well jokes(serious one though) aside, this is a good project for Kazahstan since it is landlocked, it will help the country alot if it can succeed in being a major trade transit hub in the region. Though Moscow will try and prevent this from happening, since Kazakhstan and many central asian states are wary of Moscow and its imperial ambitions on them. Thats what you get for living near the Russian bear:devil::taz::P

Kazakhstan unites Russia and China

On April 26th the early presidential elections will take place in Kazakhstan. The current president of the country, Nursultan Nazarbayev, representing the Nur Otan Party, a candidate from the Communist Party Turgun Syzdykov, and the chairman of the Federation of Labor Unions Abelgazi Kusainov will fight for the top position.

Nazarbayev has already presented his election programme. The economic policy of Nurly Zhol includes measures to resist the world crisis within the state program of infrastructural development and continuation of the course of industrializations. The document also determines social policy, due to which strict budgetary discipline won’t touch on the social duties of the state.

“The unifying idea for all of Kazakhstan’s residents is the Eurasian idea, which accumulates the best skills of an Asian and a European person in a citizen of Kazakhstan,” the election programme says.

Politician and member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, Sergey Markov, thinks that Kazakhstan has chosen strategic development together with Russia. And this causes a lot of respect for Kazakhstan, as well as the great wisdom of Nursultan Nazarbayev.

“The situation in Kazakhstan shows the role of a man in history perfectly, how it can be positive. This very wisdom, balance, it inspires great respect and support from us. From this, we see that Kazakhstan and its president play a huge role in the formation of the Eurasian Economic Union. He was the initiator in almost all of these stages,” Markov said.

According to him, Kazakhstan plays an important role in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization: “There are two giants - Russia and China. But after Russia and China, Kazakhstan plays a key role, and with that, it cements Russia and China. And this is a very important role, which is very appreciated in Russia, in China and in other countries of the SCO.”
