MEYER OPTIK is a German old-fashioned lens manufacturer. It was founded in 1896. In the 1920s, it began to cooperate with Zeiss to develop into one of the most well-known German lens manufacturers. Its lens products are considered by many professional photographers to be excellent workmanship. Representative of Made in Germany.

But in early March, Meyer admited a very face-breaking fact - its widely acclaimed Nocturnus 50mm F0.95 lens plagiarized the optical master of the Chinese lens manufacturer ZhongYi Speedmaster 50mm F0.95.

ZhongYi Optics is located in Shenyang, the full name of Shenyang ZhongYi Optical Electronics Co., Ltd., was established in 1984. It was originally a Sino-Japanese joint venture Shenyang Meidekang Co., Ltd., and now its main products are projector lenses and camera lenses, which are relatively strong among domestic lens manufacturers. One, Speedmaster 50mm F0.95 was launched in 2014.

In fact, as early as 2015, some users found that the Meyer Nocturnus 50mm F0.95, which costs $3,000, is similar to the ZhongYi Speedmaster 50mm f / 0.95 lens, which is priced at $849, and asked me if Meyer was in the lens design. The latter is used as a reference.

At the time, the user received a response that was “no”, but photographer Ori Cohen later discovered that the optical structure and specifications of the two lenses were the same, and pointed out that the two generations of the Nocturnus 50mm F0.95 lens are all improved on the basis of the lens of China ZhongYi.

A few years later, Meyer once again faced this problem after undergoing a shareholding change. The new parent company OPC Optics said after investigation that the Nocturnus 50mm F0.95 lens is indeed not "Made in Germany" and found another The lens series Somnium is a "retrofit" of a Russian brand lens. Also, OPC Optics decided to take the two series of lenses off the shelf.

Meyer's parent company, OPC Optic, took over Mayer at the end of 2018. In April last year, Meyer’s former parent company net SE was delisted from the German exchange, and the CEO of net SE died in a car accident in the middle of the year.

“It’s absolutely not good,” said Timo Heinze, Managing Director of OPC Optics. “It’s a shameful fact as a German manufacturer using the 'Made in Germany' quality mark. These lenses may be very good in themselves, but they are made and marketed. The way violates all our principles."

Timo Heinze added that in the future, Meyer may redesign the 50mm F0.95 lens, but it will never let the plagiarism happen again.

All along, China's optical lens manufacturing industry is considered to be unable to keep up with the Japanese and German. Although several lens manufacturers have introduced many excellent lens products in recent years, in the inherent conception of the people, the foreign moon is always round. Bright, this time Meyer revealed his own shortness, and let the market re-understand the strength of China's manufacturing. Maybe one day in the future, China's lens will stand proudly on the world!

Zhongyi optics is a Chinese Japanese joint venture that does not only distribute budget lenses under brand names like Mikaton or Zongyi but also operates on a OEM model for companies like Meyer. Meyer distributes their lenses under their German brand name. The only people that got stolen from where the customer who where told this model was a German product and asked them for "Made in Germany" prices. They later tried to make that less apparent by shifting it to assembly in Germany and changing the exterior creating a defacto "copy". "Plagiarism" can also mean passing something from someone else as your own, even if that "someone else" agreed and was paid for it.

The American author who wrote the original article that got copied here conveniently omitted that and profoundly plays with words.

That's why there's no lawsuit

In the eyes of Westerners, Chinese technology must be stolen (China pays so many patent fees every year, but Westerners can’t see it, Huawei’s invention patents are known to Westerners, but they are not willing to admit it),

Western espionage and theft behaviors is considered to "maintain and monitor world peace"! (The Edward Snowden incident shows that the West particularly US yankee has never stopped mass espionage.)

The US FBI, CIA, and NSA have made it clear that the yankee United States will continue to monitor countries around the world (including its allies) by various espionage methods.
