Geely’s first globally-sold BEV to hit the market in Singapore next month

Molly From Gasgoo| March 13 , 2019

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Geely is now set to test international waters with an all-new compact BEV model code-named GE11. Recently, the automaker announced the name of the GE11—“Jihe A”, meaning “Geometry A” in Chinese.

Following the “Xingyue” coupe SUV, which is named after a main-belt asteroid between Mars and Jupiter, Geely did a new naming creation by using a mathematical term. The new BEV model will go on sale on April 11 in Singapore and may be priced between RMB150,000 and RMB170,000, according to previous reports.

From the official photos exposed before, we can see that the “Jihe A” adopts a “closed-off” front face, which features a new logo officially named “quantum silver shield”. The lack of a grille suggests that the GE11 is a pure electric vehicle that has no internal combustion engine under the hood.

As to the side profile, smarter aerodynamics is characterized by sharp body lines and “hidden” door handles that helps reduce the air resistance—drag coefficient for the car is 0.2375Cd.

The new vehicle measures 4,736mm long, 1,804mm wide and 1,503mm tall with a wheelbase that spans 2,700mm.

Featuring a fastback design, the rear end adopts flat taillights that are connected by a chrome trim. Besides, there are two charging ports at the right-front wheel eyebrow and the left-rear wheel eyebrow respectively.

With a minimalism design, the interior largely covered by gray materials. The dual-spoke flat bottom accentuates a sense of sports. In addition, many key presses are integrated in the auxiliary instrument panel and the center console that carries a large-sized touch screen. Under the 12.3-inch high-definition LCD is a 1.6-meter ambiance light bar that is available for 7 colors.

The new vehicle is able to run at a top speed of 150km/h powered by a 177hp (130kW) electric motor and a lithium-ion power battery pack offered by CATL. It will provide users with two range options—410km and 500km.

Bought my first car the moment I got my driving licence, 45 years ago.
Sold my last car 2 years ago and since then I lost interest in cars or their prices.
Travel is a hassle without a car, a 15 min journey is now 45 mins.
Never travel much since retiring though.
Luckily thanks to China, we now have Personal Mobile Vehicles, electric bikes and scooters,
.

Nice, i see great potential in this. International markets that Geely should focus first is southeast asia and maybe south asia.

geely not much lucky in Indonesia compared to Wuling, i dont know what is the cause.

geely not much lucky in Indonesia compared to Wuling, i dont know what is the cause.

Because of wrong strategy.

Geely needed to combine offering low price, building many dealers, run vigorous campaign, service guarantee and building factory to gain consumer trust. Maybe Geely's capital was not strong enough at that time, because this strategy require lot of capital for long run game. Also unforunately 10 years ago the quality of chinese car including geely still below japanese, hence convincing consumer for quality will be lot tougher than wuling. But nowadays their quality should be equal.

Yes, a decade ago they pushed other markets in the Mideast, too, but with little success.

If I were them, in fact, I would not try, because, trying to push a product that is well below the competition in terms of tech and quality could make bad impression, which would be difficult to change later even with better products.

Now, Geely, I believe, is ready in terms of technology and quality, so, they may try again, together with a good back up in service and spare parts.

Geely is currently more focusing on the Malaysia market. It acquired Proton, and rebadge its own Geely car with the Proton logo and sell in Malaysia. Proton X70 (or Geely Boyue) is the first model under such scheme.

The Proton X70 is now selling very well in Malaysia. A news article from the Proton website:

Proton X70 retains position as best-selling SUV in Malaysia

Registrations for the Proton X70 continue to increase in volume with each passing month. 2,823 units were registered in February, a number that includes 1,000 units delivered on the same day to customers throughout the country prior to Chinese New Year.

As at the end of February, over 20,000 bookings have been placed for PROTON’s first SUV, exceeding initial expectations and firmly establishing the Company as a segment leader despite being new to the market.

Having registered 6,927 units of the Proton X70 since it was launched on 12 December 2018, PROTON has set a new record for SUV registrations in the first three months after its launch. The number far exceeds the previous record and confirms the popularity of the intelligent SUV amongst Malaysians.
