France's Mistral Warship Deal With Russia Is Off

Just part of arm twisting over Ukraine. There is no off on the deal especially when there is a prepared vessel tailored to Russian needs sitting in France without being fully paid for. The French want their money, and will not be very eager to return Russian money and be left with a ship that not many or no one would want. @vostok

In fact, some experts claim that for Russia was important not the floating boxes - modern NATO technical standards and organization of production, that was the reason. Since Russia has lagged behind the West in the Yeltsin The Drunkard times (in naval sphere).
Russia does need to modernise but it would have been better if they bought some slightly older models and modified them or used the designs to build a new one locally like what China did with the Aircraft carrier. If it was only NATO standards the Russians could have sent one of their designed ships and asked them to certify and the recommendations would have helped them to address any short comings.

"According to Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia Yuri Borisov, Russia will not make claims about the delay, but in the case of supply disruption Russia will go to court."

However, Russia has learned a lot of useful information because half of the body of both ships built in Russia under French leadership. Once Peter the Great traveled to Holland to learn how to build ships. This deal - something like a study.

EU should slap another round of sanctions just as a token of appreciation.

With Russia urging OPEC to cut crude production, Putin is playing oil diplomacy. He knows very well that as of now EU hasn't got guts to confront Russia. So atleast as of know any sanctions from EU are bound to boomerang on already fragile EU economy.

Germany won't be affected. Only smaller countries like Greece who is responsible for screwing the EU anyway.
