What's new

Foxconn shutdown its plants in India and Brazil and move back to China

Show us the proof that entry-level low education workers gets 500-1000$.

This article says they used to get 1800 yuan ($290) earlier which was increased to 2200($350) in 2012 after many Chinese low education entry-level migrant workers went on suicide spree.
Foxconn to Increase Workers' Wages in China | PCWorld

Its dumb of you to compare your low wage suicidal Foxconn iphone polishers with upper middle class of India. Upper middle class in India leads a luxurious life owns multiple houses, multiple sedans, and many servants. They are not like the chinese nationals who are ready to jump from building top for not getting enough for polishing iphones/ipads..

that is 2012, and that is the base salary,

now is very different, salaries are soaring in China

salaries plus bonus, an low-education migrant worker can earn $600 to $1000 per month
and the factories also provide free meals and accomodation, free laundery, TV, Internet, which means the migrant workers can save a lot of money

as the report says: family with an annual income between Rs. 3.4 lakh to Rs. 17 lakh (at 2009-10 price levels) falls in the middle class category.

the upbound 17 Lakh Rs per year is about $2150 per month, and this is the income of a whole Indian family
and we know that an Indian family usually have a lot of members

in China, if a low-education migrant couple work in Foxconn, it is possible that they make around $2000 per month, which is equivalent to upper middle class in India

Its the first time I am hearing the name Foxconn. Do they make handsets under the same name?

Guys ...I worked with an assignment with Foxconn in 2006. They are shop floors..Bascially outsources manufacturers from HK....FC primarly set up its shop in India for Nokia mobile order and some other order from local companies...But as Nokia is not doing well in India so it is quite expected that FC will close its shop...

Come on dear...every sane person in this market knows how Foxconn treats its people...I have worked personally with people in a Foxconn plant in Mexico. Its horrible working culture....

this is really a standard and typical bashing post
this guy simply has no idea what foxconn is and he just wants to bash something he doesn't know at all with rumors
I don't have a specific problem with that company. I just said what happened with the products from Foxconn. Nevertheless, Foxconn products are cheaper.

Ok, horrible, but Indian workers are very angry that they can't work in so horrible conditions. Then insist on keeping Foxconn in India and hope to continue working there. And your indian police have to put some indian workers into prison so that they don't fight to keep the horrible factories in India.

I talked about the products with the brand name "foxconn".

For instance I bought this VGA a long time ago and it barely survived longer than a year.

Why do you always think that if i say something is not good that means ...it has a complimentary thing in India that is always good...My argument for Foxconn is not to say that there are employer friendly companies are in India which is better than Foxconn...But that does not discount the fact that Foxconn is perceived by many people and including me is not an employer friendly...I may be wrong too..

I absolutely know what is Foxconn...Do not go to the literal meaning of each word...If you have not worked in Foxconn, then i think i know better than you because I worked with them directly...So let us not go into that debate wheather i know it or not...Foxconn does not have any product of its own...but it is a global shop floor...It has manf assemply lines for all major electronic giants...

I didn't say "you don't know what foxconn is"
I was saying that "@Azizam doesn't know"

I know Foxconn is not a good employer. but many developing nations still lack such employers and have high unemployment problems

Give some believable non chinese link to prove your point. I neither have time to translate the Chinese BS nor i believe any data/numbers eminatiing out of China..

you have a problem with 2012 data and giving me 2009 data that too for the middle class. Dude, stop making fool out of yourself!! People here are not exactly brainless CCP controlled bots..

Not a simple foxconn product I bought lasted more than 2 years. :(

I have nothing against it. It's just that I've had a bad experience with the products labelled under Foxconn. Just like the graphic card that I have mentioned in one of my previous posts, rest of the hardware components I've bought didn't survive for too long.

Well it's obvious Chinese are known for their good work ethics, unlike their lazy neighbors.

interesting development. I say it's a huge blow to Modi's Make in India or Make for India whatever blueprint.

Still it's rather a global supplychain issue as I earlier said. As a contractor for this industrial giant my employer provide various service to it and I know its moveing out of China is not going to succeed. China may have 90 percent of ingrediants for a full manufacture cycle. India or Brazil may only provide less than 10 percent of the parts.

Labor cost is only a small fraction of manufacture in this more niched industry. Making in India in this case is like an isle in the ocean. All parts need for a product have to be imported and less efficency of labors pose another threat to a viable output.

For most developing nations or even developed nations China is such like a black hole. On the other hand the industrial process of a developing nations will benefit huge by bordering with China. Vietnam may have the best edges in this new world while it has tingy relations with big neighbor. South Korea is a past tense of course.
