Algerians do not bathe in happiness, but still the happiest people in the African continent and the Arab world. This is what reveals the indicator Happy Planet Index (HPI) of the New Economics Foundation (NEF) , British think-thank follower of the social and environmental justice.

Algeria has an HPI (Index of happy planet) of 52.2, ranking first in Africa. Tunisians are the second happiest people on the continent (48.3), exceeding few Morocco (47.9).

Botswana (22.6), the Central African Republic (25.3) and Chad (24.7) are the less fortunate peoples of Africa, according to the Happy Planet Index British think-tank.

The people of Jordan (51.7) are the second happiest in the Middle East and North Africa, surpassing the Iraqi (49.2), Syrian (47.1) and Saudi (46).

The Happy Planet Index indicator is an economic alternative to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the human development index of each country. The New Economics Foundation calculated from the ecological footprint, life expectancy and level of well-being of a nation.

According to the same think-tank, Algeria has a life expectancy of 73.1 years . The degree of well-being is at 5.1 / 10, while its ecological footprint (green areas in hectares) is 1.6% of its territory.

The Old Continent not happy

Norway (51.4) is the happiest country in Europe, ahead of Great Britain (47.9), Germany (47.2) and France (46.5).

The peoples of South America are happiest with a few other countries such as New Zealand, India and Madagascar.

The Costa Rican people (64), Vietnamese (60.4) and Colombia (59.8) are the happiest in the world, according to the Happy Planet Index .

I live in the USA and travel extensively, and American are not happy with their lives...majority live from one paycheck to another, some can't even make the end meet, family support non existant...
