While Indian air force won't go for F35 for sure (unless they are willing to commit suicide), but the same can't be said for our navy. EMALS from US is under consideration, for one of the forthcoming carrier. A carrier equipped with both EMALS and F35 would definitely bring lot of advantages over our eastern neighbour, but other things should be considered as well:
- While the plans to put catapults itself is not finalized, but should our navy decide to go for US EMALS, I doubt they would come as a standalone unit but in form of a package along with F-35 and Other US weapons.
- Could we afford EMALS + F-35 combo, only time would tell. But it is a possibility that we could be the first nation to field the latest aviation equipment from both US and Russia.
- US weapons always comes attached with strings. Too much dependence over US equipment (esp. frontline) could compromise our defense needs
