What's new

Facebook has blocked live streaming of the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation's over Kashmir

Ban them. Also ban Twitter.

FB and Twitter are fake news breeding grounds. They also take sides in conflicts instead of allowing all sides the opportunity of freedom of speech.

Pakistan should grow a spine and ban FB. Pakistan is in the right here. This move by FB is nothing short of bias and undermining freedom of speech.
Banning will not solve much. We will be regarded as country with no freedom of press, etc etc. Rather make a smart move and sue them. This way you get some money and they will correct themselves or will known as bias forever. They will then also get rid of Bharti chuyas holding FB hostage.

Facebook or Whatsapp or Uber which is a Jewish products, allows people to be in control of how the world sees them. And most people want to project a certain image of themselves – so they tend to post only the good news or upbeat or witty comments and edit out the not-so-great things.
The oppressed have always been the opposite. The oppressor has always been strong. Suppressing the truth, it doesn't work, never has never will! Facebook is there just to make money for the enterprise. That is the reason, the internet has been plugged off in the Kashmir valley.

Making money sure from those applications, but now even better used as a tool of 5th gen and hybrid wars.

If only Pakistanis origin Americans could sue in courts Facebook... because a Pakistani from Pakistan or even Pakistan state could do nothing against facebook apart banning. But even then VPN zindabad.

It can be done collectively. Pakistani organizations in United States along with govt of Pakistan. But someone who knows more about legal worth of these kind of case should know better.

Does freedom of expression resolve around a tool/application bro ? It’s a social media from a country who is defend freedom of speech in his constitution.

There is also problems about which laws you should comply when using Facebook outside United States. American laws or your local laws ?

I don’t use Facebook so I don’t know what are the terms and conditions of use.

You are right nobody is stopping me (if only I had money and technicals skills) to build a competitor of Facebook,

But even if I build one. Being Muslims, will we allow speeches against Islam ?

I admit that I’m not expert in philosophy so my reasonings have certainly flaws so I could be wrong.

Possible but Facebook is a monster now that to control it USA will have to cut it

Facebook has now lot of money they can use it to sabotage any competitor.

Freedom of speech only pertains to the government.
I am allowed to say what I want to say in public places and the government is not allowed to stop me.

It does not apply to private property.
If I come to your house and cuss at you, you are legally allowed to stop me and kick me out of your house.

Facebook is a private entity, they can have any rules they want. Of course since they are a business they will want to be very careful so as not to loose customers (users) and piss everyone off.

As for laws outside the US... well that is the modern philosophical/legal question of our age.
Do multinational companies follow laws in their home country? do they follow law in every countries they operate?

That is for philosophers and lawyers to decide.

As a Muslim and a fan of history I will say that the first few hundred years after the prophet, there was so much freedom of speech. We had Muslims philosophers who even debated if God existed. They debated EVERYTHING. Nothing was off limits.
Coincidentally enough, that was also the time of the Islamic Golden age.

As time went on, Muslims developed an orthodoxy. Subjects became taboo and ideas were suppressed.
This was when our golden age ended.

I promise you this, if a conservative Muslim today went back in time to the first few hundred years of Islam, outside of praying and reading the Quran, those Muslims would not recognize our modern conservative Muslim.

but this is a tangent for another time.

Thanks to reminding me about the golden age of Islam. And I agree with you on that point.

I have googled about Facebook and freedom of expression and i found this article :

https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2019/10/17/zuckerberg-standing-voice-free-expression/

very interesting to read. (I didn't read whole article)
