If Pakistan too would have looked for better ties with Russia, India and Pakistan would be at peace. Unfortunately we hate each other. Russia could push for talks. US is the most unreliable ally currently. They in recent years have overtaken Russia as primary supplier of weapons to the said country. US betrayed us, now its India's turn.

Moscow can hurt US by helping Iran get a bomb, support Syrian regime and invade Ukraine fully. But unfortunately the mentality in Russia is different than that of the Soviet Union.
