Eleven Women Die in India After Botched Sterilizations

The same Indians who bash China on one child policy are feeling proud on indian government forcing poor illiterate women of unwanted casts to go under this butchery called "sterilization procedure" in pathetic piss poor unhygienic conditions by barbers.

What the heck is going on in these hospitals?!

R.I.P.

Indian's double (or multiple) standards are obvious to all. Not long ago, between 1975-77 tens of thousands of Indians were subjected to forced sterilization (men underwent vasectomies while women tubal ligation), and promised to be given with land, housing, and monetary rewards (not sure if that actually worked out). In 2002-2003 alone, there were some 114,426 vasectomies and 4.6 million tubal ligations took place. Saddest part is, riskier tubal ligations are preferred over the simpler vasectomy and that too in a time when ten different safer contraceptive means are available.

I would never ever step foot in a public Indian hospital, have you guys seen what happens in there? It is filthy, disgusting, the doctors, nurses don't really care about the patients. The private India hospitals are another matter, if you have the money in India they you are in good hands.

But for the poor they have to put up with the filth that is called public "hospitals" in fact most public hospitals are worse than some of their public toilets, and no not the one in the malls where the rich go.

Nothing is forced on anyone here, these procedure is recommended to only those women who have more than 3 children. What you have written is just your imagination.

It was the tainted medicine to blame in this case and not the doctor.

Heads has to be rolled for this.. I am sure that, there will be a lot of commission involved in this.. Should capture them all and send them to jail..

Poor lower caste women are being sterilized- a indigenous indian way to caste away the cast problem for good-
11 dead indian women or 11 sterilized indian women- what difference does it make?- as long as they are not reproducing lower caste children-

dammm.....we have to start "swach Bharat Abhiyan " from hospitals first .............

Barking up the wrong tree. This wasn't an infection or a botched surgey, it's a case of spurious antibiotics bought from dubious firms. The doctors were an easy target, especially for the howling banishees masquerading as news show hosts whose knowledge on the subject is bereft of even the commonest of sense. It was clearly evident for anyone with half a brain to pin the cause of the deaths on spurious medicines, neither botched surgeries nor infections could, in normal course, explain the timing of the deaths -not immediately after the surgery but earlier than the time one would expect infection to cause problems. The drugs were the most likely culprit. However drug procurement is usually a murky area where a lot of senior officials might have been involved. Going after the doctors (even if one doesn't condone all the actions of the doctor involved) to pacify the outraged but uninformed public opinion was an easy way out but one that will cause long term problems. Not many doctors will want to put their backsides on the line now. It's the poor people who will face the brunt of this foolishness. As always

I am one and that is why I am saying it is unnecessary. Name just one more country where these type of procedures are performed en masse.

Answer is, men are selfish, and they don't really love or care about their wives. There is no other explanation. The GoI and the authorities dealing with this program are also responsible as to why they allow TL procedure that is costlier and riskier.
