RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) - Five Saudi civilians were injured when a group of Egyptians rioted in the northwestern Red Sea city of Duba in a rare protest by foreign workers in the kingdom, official Saudi media reported Monday.

The Saudi Press Agency quoted an unnamed security official in the region of Tabuk who said the workers threw rocks, burnt tires and closed a major road late Sunday to protest their employers' negligence. The protesters said they should have been provided a ferry to transport them across the Red Sea back to Egypt by now.

The security official said police broke up the evening protest, but did not say whether any of the workers were arrested.

The men are among 1,700 seasonal butchers who stay in Saudi Arabia for a month around the time of hajj, which ended Oct. 6. They are typically paid around 1,500 riyals, or about $400.

Employers often promise to pay for the roundtrip transportation to Saudi Arabia from Egypt, giving the workers a rare chance to also perform the Muslim pilgrimage while there.

It's a tiny group of Egyptian migrants that misbehaved in this case and this was dealt with. Hijazis and Egyptians are not only neighbors but fellow Muslims, Arabs, Semites and we even share extremely similar dialects. This changes absolutely nothing.

Duba is a small coastal city on the beautiful and tropical Red Sea coastline. Your headline makes it seem like there is some giant riot going on involving our Egyptian brothers in KSA, this case Hijaz, which is obviously pure nonsense.

Yes, workers, in this case butchers, who come to KSA out of their free will are indeed slaves. Workers who earn 2-3 times more than they could earn in Egypt for the same kind of work moreover are slaves. Workers whose travel expenses are paid are indeed slaves.
Workers who moreover at the same time get to visit Makkah and Madinah during Haj are slaves despite there being no greater honor for an Muslim.

It's probably just an employee that is too slow or there is a problem with the ferry (ferries). Some of those butchers have worked in Hijaz during Haj for years so it is not like it's not functioning as it should. I don't even think that this small news is reported anywhere in KSA other than in some local newspapers. I have not checked though but it is a very small thing.

But yeah, call it a civil war if you like or a JEWISH conspiracy.

They have travelled by their own but they didn't know what waits for them in KSA because you hide it, just like the poor bangladesh workers who are forced to work to death in Qatar

The weather is very nice in Gambia right now and I just drank Arabic coffee.
