Maharashtra has witnessed a six-fold increase in applications for Indiacitizenship from Pakistani nationals ever since relaxation and simplification of

rules in December 2017. The gainers include cross-border brides in Mumbai who have waited for citizenship for close to a decade.

, got her citizenship after 10 years of her marriage to cousin Mohammed Azam. "The biggest advantage that comes with citizenship is the liberty to travel anywhere in India," said Asma Gazdhar, also born in Karachi. "Foreigners are not allowed to travel outside the city for which they secured a visa. I have not gone outside Mumbai in seven years." For this reason, none of these brides had a honeymoon. Even after having kids, family outings to even a neighbouring hill station such as Lonavla were a pipe dream.


Against an average of 10 applications every six months earlier, today nearly 50 to 60 migrants from

Pakistan
apply for Indian citizenship in Maharashtra during the period. "Applications are also cleared in a time-bound period now since the powers have been delegated to collectors in Mumbai, Pune, Thane and Nagpur," a senior home department official.

There is so much I cannot list because derogatory terms for religion have been used. Some comments saying that all muslims should be exported to Pakistan, or that any Pakistanis coming to India should be forced to convert. Some fearing another partition if any Muslims areallowed to thrive, some saying they are terrorists, other fearing that ISI is behind it all.

Good move by India. It will help couple to spend honeymoon outside the city. Citizenship will also give her many benefits. She can move freely with husband & children , She can do shopping, tourism, religious places outside city, beaches & beautiful places in kerala & other cities.

Feeling was mutual here as well, how on earth Shoaib couldn't find a bride to his liking from a population as large as Pakistan...but I agree Sania Mirza is a bigger star in India and elsewhere than Shoaib in Pakistan and in other countries...so it must have caused ripples and media went into a frenzy.

And looked into in this context it wasn't a pleasant surprise in India.

While there were tons of comments deriding Sania for this gesture from India, there wasn't any from Pakistan calling Shoaib a Gaddar or anything like that. Sania was at the receiving end and have seen her video with Barkha Dutt I guess where she was crying and broke into tears about all the social media hateful vibes...
