New Delhi: After the first engineless train, now India might also get an underwater rail link to Dubai. It might be a little bizarre but, it is probable. According to a Khaleej Times report, UAE is looking to developing underwater rail network between Fujairah, UAE and Mumbai, India. In near future, resident of both nations might travel via undersea rail link.

The report also stated that apart from the rail network for passenger transit, there are plans facilitating the exchange of goods from India to UAE and export of oil through a pipeline as well.

The report quoted the founder of National Advisor Bureau Limited, Alshehhi saying, "This is a concept. We plan to connect Indian city of Mumbai with Fujairah through ultra-speed floating trains. The project aims to boost bilateral trade. There will be export of oil to India from Fujairah port and import of excess water from Narmada River, north of Mumbai. In addition, other GCC partners can also improve export and import."

It may be noted that National Advisor Bureau Limited is a consultancy firm based in Masdar and is known as the breeding ground for start-ups. Alshehhi further said that many facts are to be taken into consideration for this concept to take shape and become reality. There will be a feasibility study of the project first to find out whether it is possible for such a rail network to work. The total rail network between the two cities will less than 2,000 Km.

This is not the first time someone has proposed an underwater rail network. Recently, the Chinese government approved a project to build the first ever underwater bullet train route in the country to connect Ningbo, Shanghai to Zhousan.

Impossible for this length.
Short lengths like the underwater rail link in the english channel between uk and france are doable.
Why even make such a remark ?

2000 km undersea train ? Not impossible but extremly difficult as of now.
Technically not impossible but financially totally nonviable.I am a project man and i can easily tell you this will never happen. Even the chinese HSR are financially non viable and are subsidised , who is going to subsidize train travel between india and dubai ? Forget about ever recovering your investment costs , even operating costs will not be covered.
At the moment , any HSR above 600 km in length is worse off as compared to air travel - comparing price and time.
As an example - in china , the only financially viable route is the 1000 km route between 2 very busy cities -beijing and shanghai. And thats operational cost. Investment will never be recovered as interest will always outstrip the profits. And the air tkt turned out to be cheaper sometimes.
