Saraswat unveils Microwave Tube Facility

An integrated microwave tube development unit, was today unveiled at a constituent laboratory of DRDO, for synergistic research, development and production.

The J C Bose Microwave Tube facility at the Microwave Tube R&D Centre was inaugurated by Vijay K Saraswat, Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister, is an integrated microwave tube development unit that houses, among others, state-of-art precision fabrication machinery and high-voltage and environment test facilities.

The MTRDC is co-located at Bharat Electronics Limited, Bangalore. It is a constituent laboratory of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and carries out frontline research on microwave tubes for defence applications of radars and electronic warfare systems, a DRDO statement said.

Chief Controllers of DRDO, W Selvamurthy and K D Nayak and Director BEL Bangalore H S Bhadoria were present.

Earlier, Lalilt Kumar, Director, MTRDC, detailed the various activities of MTRDC. One of the latest products of MTRDC, a Microwave Power Module (MPM) produced by Bharat Electronics was handed over to the Program Director (Akash).

It is significant that the supportive system of missile development is rolling out from BEL through indigenous development thereby lowering the imports, the statement said.

Saraswat said the MPM produced for FLR system is a perfect example of BEL-DRDO synergy. DRDO should initiate the work on various supportive systems of weapon integration to meet the futuristic requirement of services, he said.

Great news! On another note...I wonder why we aren't researching portable ultrasound machines. The US is using such devices on the Mexican border to uncover hidden tunnels.....Does anyone even know if India is conducting such useful research..
