Dr Kamal Hossain and Allama Shah Ahmed Shafi

Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain and General Secretary of the party Mostafa Mohsin Montu have demanded legal actions against Hefajat-e-Islam chief Allama Shah Ahmed Shafi over recent anti-female education comments.

In a joint statement on Monday, Dr Kamal Hossain and Mostafa Mohsin Montu termed Allama Shafi's comments indecent, reports UNB.

They also urged people to be vocal against his edict against female education.

"Ahmed Shafi is an anti-feminist and anti-constitution element who also nurtures anti-Liberation War spirit. We strongly demand that the government take prompt legal actions against this edict-mongering person," the statement said.

The Gono Forum leader alleged that the Hefajat chief wants to plunge the country and society into darkness through his imaginary edicts misinterpreting the religion.

On Friday, Hefajat-e-Islam Ameer Allama Shafi at parogramme in Chattogram's Hathazari urged parents not to send their daughters to schools and colleges for further education after they complete fourth or fifth grades.

Shafi said, "If you allow your girls to be educated up to eight, ninth or tenth grade, or to have MA or BA degree, they would no longer remain yours. Somebody else would take them away from you after marriage. Don't you see things like this in newspapers?"

@Atlas, opinion, please.

How can muslim society compete against the likes of South Korean, China, Japan, Western countries when this kind of though still prevalent and made discrimination against women

@bluesky , if shafi really said so, still for the sake of democracy it's his right . Anyone can give any opinion, if you take legal action, then it will show your weakness.
Then many peoples will start accepting his idea ( if he really said so) , as forbidden fruit is always tasty.
Many people read the book named "lajja" of Taslima Nasreen, when the book is banned.
Before they even did not know the books name .

In the scripture of muslim and Christian, we saw Adam and Eve even hadn't think of touching the forbidden fruit ( some say this fruit is actually sexual intercourse) ,unless God prohibited it.

So if he apologise, I don't think it should be pushed further. Already some peoples are making fuss in Facebook that since sultana Kamal type peoples opposed it, so probably shafi said the correct thing!!!!
However, if still shafi really said so, he can be condemned socially, but taking legal action is actually making him stronger in this society .
And specially when he already several times denied the accusation.
He is old man and can make mistake when speaking something . But if he later try to give and explanation, then I think it should be finished here .

And about Dr Kamal? I had a great respect for him before oikkofront nominated 25 Jamat member.

Now he confessed his mistake and few AL ministers thanked him too.
Now tell me brother, making alliance with jamati islami ( excluding main line BNP) and wanted to take Bangladesh to medieval era, isn't it the bigger crime than speaking against woman education? since when political militant islamic party Jamat became the patron of women rights and women education?
Shafi said that ( if he really said) , but Jamat would literally try to stop that. So making alliance with jamat and then speaking for women right is actually hypocrisy.
I believe shafi has changed, and he is not the old shafi of 2013. Probably he asked women to wear burkha and asked to stop Co education ( as he later explained) , although I strongly disagree with his advice ( as dress us is personal choice, just we expect that nothing looks odd in Bangladesh society) , still such types of advices are not new. Besides, any one can give any advice, if women can wear bikini and is no problem, then wearing burkha should not be a problem, both can go parallel .
Just I do not want anyone forcing anything to others.
So now finally again about women education .
If shafi really suggested that to stop women education, then probably, he must apologise openly as it shall be taking as a provocation since it is coming from religious high figure who has a good influence of society, but if he apologise, then no legal action should be taken, as apology from a religious leader is already a big achievement!
But if he really did not say that, ( as he explained ) then it should no be pushed further.
If still some people do push it even after his explanation , it will make him stronger .
Kamal is doing so because he is in mainka chipa because of his alliance with BNP Jamat.
And I am just feeling disgust to Fakhrul, why he is even allowed to comment on this, when he is living together with another backdated and militant political party named poisonous Jamat?
একেই বলে, আমার মত সতী নারী ত্রিভুবনে নাই, তিন বাচ্চার মা আমি, বিয়া বসি নাই!
ফখরুলের হইছে এই দশা, বুঝলেন ভাই :D
First BNP needs to kick our those munafiqs and then will be allowed to talk about women's right. Otherwise their fate is the same quicksand as they are drowning in to.
চোরের মার আবার বড় গলা !
Ps: What if I want legal action against Kamal hussein who continued the alliance with militant jamat even knowing that they are getting nomination? He denied now , but that is lie, as he could break the alliance instantly when he knew.
But he was in dream to seat in power that lost sense.
But nothing will happen against him since he is Kamal Hossain.
And although shafi rejected the accusation, still he and others will be demanding legal action, as shafi is not international figure, and had bad reputation of 2013 incident .
And before 2013 peoples never knew what is Hefazat-e-Islam , but peoples knew what Jamat e Islam is, and how daring they were.
Who forget their Achilies-tendon cutting method? No one. Now they became keeper of democracy because BNP is their bed partner ?
Finally, shafi is anti freedom fight spirit , and Jamat is a team of freedom fighters, I am convinced! :dance3:

when this kind of though still prevalent and made discrimination against women
There is no discrimination against woman in Bangladesh.
If someone really said against women rights that necessarily doesn't represent the whole society .
Gender gap in Bangladesh is much lower comparing other countries, and the remaining gap is reducing day day.
