What's new

Do we use RBS-70 MANPADS??

I wasn't aware that other than small arms, BD uses such systems from Europe.

Well, better soon than latter.

Hope we will be able to procure Rafales, EFTs or Gripens at some point in the future :D

Better if EU starts working on a 5G fighter.

Well these are long shot procurement for Bangladesh. And personally, i feel that we better try for interceptors on a larger scale. Typhoon, Rafales are for long-distance fighting and our country is small, also let alone the maintenance cost.

Cant we make helicopters or APCs or something. Laptops done, ships done...we should think about the armed forces now for a change.

Cheers!!!

i forget the name ,but its the missle from which anza missile developed

Its probably c-802. I've seen tender documents
in another forum regarding the construction
of c-802 related workshops. Is it for maintenance
or licensed production I'm not sure.

And because of this missiles platform I guess
the airforce would opt for fc-1 jets.

I generally oppose having large numbers of cheap aircraft. We do have the F-7, and it'll do - for now.

Remember, if you are defending your country from an enemy attack or even a potential one - you have to take that war to the enemy (i.e enemy territory). That's how Israel won the war so decisively against the Arabs.

That's why we should always have long range aircraft capable of crippling enemy air bases, naval and radar installations. I'd be more than happy to have 4.5G - 5G aircraft in our inventory in the future. But sure, it is a long term priority. Our first priority now should be the economy and most of all political stability. Also, the military should be reformed such that it can better prioritize national security - not a state within a state attitude. Bangladesh has good potential in all fields, and I am pretty sure that we can become prosperous at some point in the future.

Currently, Myanmar presents a challenge now and the future as long as the ruling junta and the Rohingya refugee issue remains. Our priority should be the potential oil deposits in the Bay of Bengal as the price.

I am all for diplomacy, but we never know.

Helicopters and APCs? Possible. Even MBTs. But aircraft? Not anytime soon, not even under ToT.

That's an anti-ship missile. We were talking about a shor-range SAM, but I don't know about that.

Anyways, the FC-1 is capable of firing the C-802.

Zabanya,

Given the proliferation of MANPADS to include with the terrorists, all air forces are equipping themselves with anti MANPAD systems.

They are as good as nearly gone.

Note: nearly.

It is but a fallout of the defeat of the USSR in Afghanistan because of the US donated Stingers which were basic MANPADS.

Hope that's true. It would definitely be a very important step for the road to self-sufficiency.

yeah we will produce c802 locally. there was a deal a year ago...... BNS USMAN uses it. and i do not think they are going to produce it locally only for BNS USMAN... so a fc-1 deal is very likely.......

^^ There are platforms in BNS Khalid Bin Walid and other few modified OPVs as well + likely FC-1...so yes, local production sounds logical.

But i did not yet see any confirmation of the C-802/3 production in BD...or did i miss anything?

Cheers!!!

We got few missile boats which carries c-802. Also land based missile launcher in chittagong uses c-802 as well.

About time those aging A-5s get replaced. Hope it's the FC-1 block II they get.

BNS Khalid bin Walid/Bangabandhu uses better italy made Otomat Mk 2 Block II:

@ Iajdani (sorry cant quote...somethings wrong!)

I thought they had SAM system...C-802 capability there makes sense though, given we have a forward air base and naval ports.

Cheers!!!
