BAIC Motor and Le Holdings Co signed an agreement in Hong Kong to jointly build the first internet vehicle on March 23, and the first model is expected to debut on the Shanghai auto show in April.

The mature model will not enter the market until 2016, the company said.

BAIC Motor is a top five automaker in China, with 2.4 million delivery of cars and turnover of 300 million yuan last year.

Le Holdings Co, also known as LeTV, is the only internet company that has its online steaming website listed on the A-share market, and it has established a research and development group with more than 260 employees formerly working in Tesla, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Volkswagen and Ford. The R&D center is based in Silicon Valley, California.

LeTV will provide technological supports for BAIC to build its internet cars, including the internet of cars technologies and smart control systems.

BAIC Chairman Xu Heyi said in an interview with Sina that the cooperation is a"complementary deal between BAIC and LeTV".

"LeTV has the Internet technologies and the Internet mindset, but they barely know anything about car manufacturing. Even they can build a car, it won't be stable in quality, just like the case of Tesla; while BAIC is an established automaker, but we lack the Internet way of thinking."

Xu said he hopes this partnership can help BAIC climb the value chain and embrace the Internet era.

The reason why BAIC chose LeTV is that LeTV has built a relatively complete chain from TV to contents and applications, Xu added.

Earlier this year, LeTV introduced the first user interface system for cars--the EUI system. The system links all digital devices including the car, cell phone and television.

This is not the first time that BAIC and LeTV joined hands. Last year, the two parties jointly invested in US electric car design company Atieva, a company once made designs for Tesla.

Atieva has developed multiple new-energy vehicles including star models such as Tesla Roadster and Chevrolet Volt and Audi R8. It will also provide technological support for BAIC and LeTV.

BAIC General Manager Zhang Xiyong said BAIC and LeTV has gained trust of each other during the co-investment in Atieva, and this agreement will bring the cooperation to a new level.

During the annual two sessions this month, Premier Li Keqiang brought up the concept of "Internet plus" and made it the national strategy. This sends out a clear signal that Internet will be a new engine of the economy.

He Yi, vice-president of LeTV, said the cooperation will include car research and development, spare parts manufacturing and after-sales services.

LeTV seems to be everywhere these days。People who hold the company's stocks which are traded on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange's Enterprise Board, should have done really well in the past couple of years。:D

LeTV just founded a music company that aims to take on China’s online music industry

China’s LeTV is best known for its popular online streaming platform, but in the past year the company has really been branching out. Within that timeframe it has moved into smartphones, film production, and electric cars. Now it’s moving into the music business too, having on Thursday announced the establishment of the LeTV Music Company in Hong Kong.

LeTV Music, which will be headed by former LeTV entertainment boss Yin Liang, is aiming for China’s music market by way of vertical integration, since it already has the technology and internet platforms to distribute smoothly to most of the country. Its music offerings are already substantial because LeTV was already producing original music video content. In fact, the company claims that it is already one of China’s biggest creators of music video content, especially 4K content. And with its mobile apps and its smart TVs already on the market, LeTV Music has an easy way onto screens both big and small across the Middle Kingdom.

According to Sina Tech, LeTV Music also plans to try its hand at disrupting the music industry model by taking an O2O approach to concerts.

One certainly can’t fault LeTV for a lack of ambition, but it’s hard not to wonder if the company might be expanding a but too quickly given the different directions it has chosen to move in over the past twelve months. LeTV has proved that it can succeed in the streaming video space, but can it handle producing films, music, smartphones, and electric cars on top of all of that?

New Images Leak of Mysterious LeTV Phone Featuring USB Type-C in Gold
Published on March 24, 2015

Very recently we brought reports of a phone with no bezels and support for the new USB Type C standard built in. The mysterious handset detailed in the reported leaks is a new phone geared for release from the likes of LeTV. This new smartphone poised to make waves in the industry upon release intends to be the first device to feature USB Type C technology. The last batch of leaked images had a hand obscuring the camera in the shot, while the image of the USB Type C port was extremely closeup. Today’s reported leak give us a clear view of the USB Type-C port, with an example cable or charger above to show what the connector looks like. While the images also give away a better view of the front of the device, what appears to be a diagonal shot of dual speakers is displayed as well. In the second image, we get to see the device’s camera, which appears to slightly protrude from the rear of the device, and is accompanied by an LED flash.

While a display with close to no bezels showing and a USB Type-C port are two great features to set this phone aside, the complete specifications for the device are just as important. To power this phone though your gaming and multitasking needs is the MediaTek 6795 2.2 Ghz octa-core processor complimented by 2 GB of ram. The internal storage capacity is set to provide users with 16 GB of internal storage. While this is not the largest capacity, it is also possible the LeTV X600 could offer memory expansion although it is unknown at this point. The display for the device is expected to be a 5.5 inch full 1080p panel. As for the camera, on the rear a 13 megapixel shooter will rest while on the front a 5 megapixel is present. To sum this up, the LeTV X600 will include dual SIM slots as well.

With this new, growing trend of phones with bezel-less displays the movement appears to be gaining huge momentum. While in some cases the design choice is not always the best choice, it certainly is an attractive look for devices with large displays. This feature combined with the latest USB Type C standard makes the LeTV X600 a tantalizing phone.

USB 3.1 and Type-C, that's the way forward. :enjoy:

Agree, this site is too slow. Have they uploaded these documentaries to youku.com?

Seriously, we should ban these pro-China programs around the world.
Keeping a low profile gives us more room, and like an anaesthetic needle to the rest of the world.

OnePlus Drone confirmed by Carl Pei in AMA
March 27, 2015

First off, let me just say that we’re not sure if OnePlus founder Carl Pei was joking or not, so take this with a grain of salt. It seems that a OnePlus drone is coming up and is in the works from the company that took the tech-world by storm last year with the OnePlus One. Now, the OnePlus Drone seems to be a real thing, and Carl Pei even shared the alleged logo of the new product on a Reddit AMA yesterday. We don’t think that Carl Pei would straight up lie on the platform, but the OnePlus Drone might just be a deflection from the rumored gaming console. Yes, there’s rumors of OnePlus making a console, if you haven’t heard, but that’s all that we know or think we know.

The alleged OnePlus Drone bears the name DR-1 and its logo is quite rudimentary, representative of such a flying machine. Drones have really taken off in the past few months, so it’s not really unheard of that a company like OnePlus would get in on the game right now. Drones are fun and can be very useful, so if the Chinese company releases DR-1 and prices it right, they might cause yet another storm in the tech-world.
