Dhaka withdraws envoy to Myanmar

Wed, Jan 11th, 2012 12:03 am BdST

Dhaka, Jan 10 (bdnews24.com) – The government has withdrawn Bangladesh ambassador to Myanmar Maj Gen Anup Kumar Chakma from the mission.

The public administration ministry issued an order to this effect on Tuesday, a month after prime minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to the neighbouring country.

The order, however, did not attribute any reason for the action.

Anup has been deputed at the Armed Forces Division, it said.

He was appointed as ambassador to Myanmar in August 2009.

The word used is withdrawn, not recalled. Chakma is old class-mater and course-mate of self-exiled Gen Moin now fighting with cancer in NY.

@ No , you are wrong. Moin is from Ist BMA Short Course and Anup is from 5th BMA Short Course.

We are trying to improve our relation with Burma . the reason why the envoy is withdrawing may be our internal matter. We need to have good relation with our neighbor for th well being of the people of this region .

Burma is too sensitive to our continuous military build ups near its border. Could it be that this BD ambassador to Burma is withdrawn because he, being a carrier military officer, finds it difficult to function with Burmese civilian bureaucrats?

BD perhaps needs a civilian ambassador in order to initiate a good neighbourly relationship with Burma. BD needs to avoid a showdown with Burmese army and must bring about a negotiated settlement of the sea territory issue. At least, BD civil bureaucrats know more about niceties and diplomacy.

i think its not much of a problem these things happen in every embassy/consulate Bangladesh/Myanmar relationship is on right track so no worries there
