700 km range Hypersonic Brahmos with its range and power will blow away any thing in its way.

LOL, it wont even stop after penetrating the enemy positions. Dunno where it will stop. :guns:

What the article says is that DRDO wants to double the range from around 290Km to something like 600 Km
Even i have heard of Brahmos 2 having range of 550-600 Km

where did u get the figure of 700 Km

and yeah , the good thing about Brahmos is that due to its kinetic energy it has 6 times the killing power than that of Klub N cruise Missiles of the Indian Navy

I am just guessing the range to be 500-700kms from the article only ^^

If they are successful in coming up with a hypersonic cruise missiles of that range then submarine launched versions will be like trump card. U can down enemy ACC at will. Frigates and Destroyers will be Ducks in shooting range.

WoW!!! Important development. Brahmos CEO earlier said that lab test started for the hypersonic engine of the Brahmos in DRDO.

Many new info...

1) Development started in 2008.
2) User trial in 4 years.
3) New missile smaller than current Brahmos.
4) Speed Mach 5-8.
5) New technologies will be developed by both sides from scratch.
6) Total development cost $ 1 billion.
7) Range is double than current version ie appr 600 km.
8) Brazil, Indonesia and Vietnam want to buy, GoI may give approval for export next year.
9) Air launched version first test by end of next year in India. Missile config same as Block III.
10) Brahmos onboard IN Tu-142 under consideration.

@ 7.)
But the Range of Brahmos Missile is restricted to 300Km. Isn't it?

Yes. The exact range of the Hypersonic Brahmos has not been set or kept secret but it is clear that it will not follow MTCR like current supersonic Brahmos. DRDO mentioned that IA wants hypersonic version to have double the range ie ~ 600km.

Note Prahaar already a hypersonic missile with speed of ~ Mach 5.

@KINEtIC : If the range is around ~600 km then its really good but why would Brahmos II range be not limited by MTCR rules ?

anyways, point 9, 10 mentioned are not for Hypersoinc Brahmos but for supersonic Air launched version of Brahmos.

Taking the bold parts of point number 2, 3 and 7...... the hypersonic version could well find its place in a modified weapon bay of the PAK FA/FG FA aircraft and provide a lethal and unstoppable combination..... most importantly in a naval war where the Stealth fighter could penetrate well inside the 600 km range of a super carrier battle group and wreck havoc shooting missiles in large numbers from different angles sinking the whole fleet in the process..... not to mention the ground attacks staying out of the detection range of any air defense system..... while flying low or medium altitude.

Why is everybody happy over the range..? Do you guys really believe Brahmos has a range restricted to 290 Km..?
This is a home made missile. Everybody ( even the bad guys ) knows that the range can be extended at will...

can we double the range of Brahmos 2? i thought we can't because of MCTR
MTCR table doesn't include hypersonic missiles.Because the people who framed MTCR didn't consider hypersonic missiles. So as there is no mention there is no range restriction. So legally speaking there can't be a restriction based on the current draft.

good that means the Brahmos 2 has better land attack capability compared to Brahmos 2 however Brahmos 1 can help us in Surgical strikes

^ Dude u are talking of Land attack ? That won't be necessary when an entire ACC can be downed by it. The war would have been decided by Naval forces before the land forces can even move...
