The Defence Ministry has issued a fresh tender for buying 20 Hawk
trainer aircraft for around Rs 2,000 crore after the original file
related to the procurement went missing leading to delays in the
acquisition process.

A fresh Request for Proposal (RFP) has been issued to the state-owned
HAL for procuring 20 additional Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer aircraft for
Air Force’s Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team ( SKAT), Defence Ministry sources
said here.

The original file related to the tender had gone missing and the process
had to be restarted by the Government, they said.

The defence ministry has taken a serious view of the lapses on part of
the officials handling the file and an inquiry has been ordered,
officials said.

Disciplinary proceedings would be initiated against officials who are
found responsible for the lapses, they said.

India has, so far, placed orders for 123 Hawks with the British BAE
Systems in two phases. The first order for 66 aircraft was placed by
India in 2004, of which more than 40 have already arrived. The second
order for 57 aircraft was placed in June last year.

Seriously, what the frick?

"Only in India...Yeh mera India.":hitwall::hitwall::hitwall:

Haven't they heard of PDF or word files and electronic data? You know, storing forms on a computer and then printing as many copies as necessary?

How do they send these files from govt office to govt office? On bullock carts? And what are these tenders written on? Dried palm leaves?

First of all we should have gone for a TRUE LIFT aircraft like yak-130 or one of its clones.
Secondly wtf!!

How can files go missing??

Well Hawk is perfect for the role it is intended for. Yak130 is almost double the price of Hawks if I am not wrong.( 2000 crore for 20 hawks and BD bought 24 Yak130s for almost 800 million).

Because they are semi combat too.....................plus much better performance not to mention way way more sexy:smitten:
Money was not a problem.

Either way now tejas mk1 will serve as a LIFT platform

it went missing, or someone wanted it to disappear?

Yak130 is almost double the price of Hawks if I am not wrong.

yes true, but it is a far more capable platform and can be used as light attack option too. But the underlying reason is that forces don't want to go for too many platforms, it only increases problems for them.

Its a generation behind yak-130 in combat capabilities and performance

Yak has two engines, that is TWICE the maintenance issues and troubles. Not to mention cost and the unreliability of a new model.

HAWK is a sound tried and tested product, made better by feedback received from countless sales and operators world wide.

There is no real world comparison between the two. Only by fan boys, not professionals.

It happens mate, here in the UK similar things have happened in the UK with classified Ministerial papers (left on trains, underground, on buses etc ) these things happen. It is frustrating and highly embarrassing and lessons need to be learnt (as they seem to have been here in the UK bureaucracy).

I don't see how the Yak-130 would be much better than the HAWK Mk.132- the Hawk is perfect for the IAF's AJT needs. The Yak is still subsonic and what the IAF really needs is a supersonic LIFT.
Deliberately ... that's the answer

I don't think so sir, sheer negligence and incompetence almost certainly.

Yak-130 is better in almost all flight characteristics with additional more combat possibilities,,its an irrefutable fact,,,even discussing that is a waste of time
