Cross Border Messages: Kashmir

title.jpg

Exclusive messages from prominent Pakistani and International figures on Kashmir, including Yvonne Ridley, Ahmed Quraishi, Hafiz Saeed, Syed Ali Geelani, General Hamid Gul and many others. Published under special arrangement with Fortress Magazine, Pakistan.

1. Yvonne Mariam Ridley – British Journalist
Anyone who would deny the Kashmiri people their right to freedom and self-determination, do not deserve it for themselves, nor will they ever have peace until they treat the Kashmiris as they would want to be treated themselves. And until that day arrives, the resistance will grow ever stronger, for right is on the side of those who shout ‘Azadi’ from the tops of the mountains right down through the valleys.

2. Ahmed Quraishi – Pakistani Journalist
“We have seen what happened when Pakistan tried to find an alternative route to the Kashmir solution other than UN Security Council resolutions. We did this in January 1966 in Tashkent. The result was disastrous! India invaded Pakistan five years later. We did this again starting in 2004. The result was a major wave of terrorism in Balochistan and on our western border through direct Indian involvement. We should stick to the UNSC resolutions and inform India that we won’t talk on Kashmir without those resolutions. We have seen how the brave Kashmiris brought India down to its knees. India will come around to its international obligations only if Pakistan’s government and military shows the same resolve as the Kashmiris do. By the will of ALLAH and the force of destiny, Kashmir will rejoin the motherland.”

3. Shabbir Ahmed Shah – Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party
“Since 1974, Kashmir Solidarity day has been observed by the Pakistani people to whom I am, and so are my people, very grateful. Pakistan has always provided us support on political and moral grounds. In all these 63 years, there is only one “brother” country, Pakistan, for which we pray wholeheartedly. Stability in Pakistan is the guarantee of Kashmir’s future. The viewpoint of Pakistan, regarding Kashmir, has always been brotherly. We hope for an increase in commitment made by the Pakistani Government towards the Kashmiri people. Kashmir should be projected globally in the same way as the people in Pakistan launch campaigns in sympathy of Kashmiri people.”

4. Hafiz M. Saeed – Ameer Jamaat-ud-Dawa Pakistan
In light of UN Resolutions, it is crystal clear to the world that the Kashmiri people have a right to freedom & self determination. It is now also clear and in the faces of all nations that India, which boasts about its democracy, has shown its real face, which is hypocritical, dishonest & violent.

On one hand, India describes itself as a Democratic state where equal rights are given to all citizens, and on the other hand, we see its government being hijacked by Hindu extremist organizations. Furthermore, India is busy suppressing the rightful struggle of Kashmiri people by using brutal force, violence & propaganda.

India has been heating up this pressure cooker in Asia for decades; therefore, it is India who is going to be responsible for this cooker’s inevitable explosion, which can happen anytime soon. The Indian Military is busy suppressing the struggle of Kashmiri people, but we must understand that this struggle is highly motivated & serious, as Kashmiri people have been, still are & will continue to sacrifice their lives for it.

The Kashmiri people will stop at nothing to achieve what they are struggling for & they’ve succeeded in uncovering the ugly face of India. Now Pakistan, the Muslim World & all the peace-loving people of the world, must realize the seriousness of Indian crimes. We all must remove the blindfolds which are restraining us from seeing what’s happening in Kashmir & we should cooperate with the oppressed Kashmiri people & accept their right to freedom.

5. Mir Nawaz Ali Khan Marwat – General Secretary of Motamar Al Alam Al Islami
It is an engraved reality, as our leader, M.Ali Jinnah, said, ‘Kashmir is the jugular vein of Pakistan,’ and without it, Pakistan is incomplete. Not just on religious grounds, but we Pakistanis are also related to the Kashmiri people on the basis of cultural & historical grounds. India on the other hand, is forcefully occupying Kashmir & claiming it to be its integral part. Not just history, but UN resolutions also give the Kashmiri people the right of self-determination. Unfortunately, these resolutions never got implemented, and the Kashmiri people were kept deprived of their historical, moral and, more importantly, their ‘birth right’. This so-called ‘civilized world’ pretends to be blind & deaf when it comes to accepting the rights of the Kashmiri people.

India must understand that they can never continue to occupy this land & suppress the struggle of the habitants. Instead, if India continues this violence, it will end up in pieces. We must also understand that as Pakistanis, we have a responsibility towards supporting our brothers & sisters in Kashmir & we must not let India continue the annihilation of the Kashmiri nation.

The decision of approx. 12 Million Kashmiri people must be made by themselves. On 5th February, Kashmir Solidarity Day, we Pakistanis show our full support for our Kashmiri brethren & we assure them that we are with them in their struggle & we condemn the violence, oppression & terrorism by Indian Military occupants on Kashmiri soil.

6. Syed Salahuddin – Chairman of United Jihad Council and Chief of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen.
“Pakistani people express their desire for liberation of Kashmir along with the Kashmiri people on 5th February. The Kashmiri people have been struggling for their basic rights and independence for the past 63 years and have sacrificed 525,000 people till date. Women have been raped and abused openly in Kashmir, property worth millions has been demolished and the Indian army has tried all these methods to derail the Independence movement. But, with the grace of ALLAH, even today, the Kashmiri people are ready to sacrifice themselves for the sake of Independence. Today, every part of Kashmir has been converted into a battle field, and nearly every part of this territory has tasted the horror of curfew. If there is any support we expect after ALLAH, it is from Pakistan and its people. We hope that the Pakistani government and its people would make this great movement successful (insha’ALLAH).”

7. Susan Marie – Public Relations NY, Journalist, Peace Activist.
Kashmir Solidarity Day is a day to stand with our brothers and sisters of Kashmir. They face grave human rights abominations that India nor Pakistan, any other nation, as well as the United Nations; wish to be fully responsible for. As one global family, it is our duty to support Kashmiris and to cause awareness for their plight. Those of us living in freedom have the power to aid those who are not. – Susan Marie Public Relations 2011

8. General Hameed Gul – Former DG ISI.
“The movement of Kashmir has entered into its last era. A historical event has yet to take place when USA will evacuate from Afghanistan and India will also be forced to evacuate from Kashmir, as India is a passenger of the sinking ship of USA. The solution to Kashmir is hidden in Afghanistan, as it has been a part of history; whenever there are important changes in Afghanistan, it has brought changes to the sub-continent. India is trying to float in the opposite direction, which makes me believe that Kashmir will become independent very soon. Pakistan should revise its policies which made Pakistan suffer in the past, including the people who were handed over to the USA; the handing over of DR. Afia Siddique and the drone attacks to be more precise. Changing these policies will make Pakistan more stabilized, and this will eventually strengthen the freedom movement of Kashmir.”

9. Aasiya Andarabi – Leader Dukhtaran-e-Millat Jammu & Kashmir
“We have an immense love and an ideological kinship with Pakistan. I say to the people of Pakistan: Please, for God’s sake, don’t forget the relationship between Kashmir and Pakistan. We are aware of the crisis you are going through, but despite this, the amount of support you give us is well below what is expected of you. However, there are segments who feel pain for us, and countless martyred brothers from Pakistan are buried in the graveyards of Kashmir. We can never possibly thank the mothers of those martyrs. But with regard to the Pakistani masses, we only ask them to please at least remain concerned for us. We know that the whole world has turned against you and there is a danger to the security of Pakistan. May ALLAH protect Pakistan!

We ask the government Pakistan: don’t change your policies under US & Indian pressure! We do understand your situation. Alhamdolillah, we have seen slight improvement, and that is why India is concerned. We ask the Government of Pakistan to further strengthen its policy and stand on Kashmir” – Interview given to Fortress in September minutes before her arrest.

10. Massarat Alam – APHC (g) also called the “Lion of Kashmir.” – The following is an excerpt of his interview before arrest.
History is evident of the fact that great sacrifices are required for great causes. To end the oppression and captivity, we have to remain steadfast on the path of freedom that we have chosen, till we achieve our goal. ALLAH has asked us in the Qura’an to remain steadfast because he tests our righteous with hardships. You have made enormous sacrifices; you have given your sons and your wealth. Now make sure we don’t get away with that. Don’t loosen your grip on the security of these sacrifices, and remain mobilized on the call of your leaders. We promise you that we will not stop before the desired goals are achieved, even if it takes our lives or we end up in jail. We want you to promise the same! Don’t fall for the propaganda of the Indian Media and Congress. We will continue the struggle till our freedom and glory of Islam. We need to move ahead with vigilance, management, organization, patience and courage.

11. Mushahid Hussain – General Secretary PML-Q
We strongly reject politicizing of Kashmir Issue. Kashmir’s legitimate struggle for freedom is always honoured by the Pakistani people, and they will always continue to show solidarity with the Kashmir people. Pakistan’s government should learn a lesson from Turkey; the way they mobilized their resources and world community for the people of Gaza was phenomenal! We should also follow the same course.

12. Munnawar Hasan – Ameer Jamat-e-Islami
Kashmiris are fighting Pakistan’s war, and they are defending our nation’s jugular vein. Hurriyat was divided in two factions in Musharraf’s era, but now they have re-united under the leadership of Syed Ali Geelani, which has given a new hope and confidence to the freedom movement. Despite all the atrocities faced by the Kashmiri people at the hands of 700’000 Indian soldiers, their resolve has not been shaken, and the Pakistani people salute their courage. Pakistan’s Kashmir Committee has failed to address the Kashmir Issue at International forums due to their incompetency and lack of interest. They should have at least published and distributed the reports of Indian atrocities through diplomatic channels. Kashmiris are very close to their destiny, “Azaadi.” It is for Pakistan now to focus and play its role for the Kashmir cause, and deliver on the International stage.

13. Justice Wajih-uddin
Pakistan’s government should formulate a policy towards the Kashmir Issue that represents the ultimate desires of the Kashmiri people. The moral, economical, and diplomatic support should continue at all costs!

14. Barrister Saif – Secretary General – APML
Pakistan’s geographical defence lies in Kashmir’s freedom. The Pakistani people have always supported the Kashmiri freedom movement in the past, they are doing it today, and they will continue to do it in future as well.

15. Shamsul Islam Naz – General Secretary – Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists.
India claims to be the Largest Democracy – this is a sham! It also claims to allow all sorts of freedom to its communities, which is utterly wrong and far from the truth. The reality is that they intimidate and ban all media outlets and news papers that uncover the facts. Five daily newspapers have been banned already in Kashmir for showing the ugly face of Indian brutality to the world. They seal their offices, torture and seize the assets of Journalists. Pakistan’s union of journalists has taken stern notice of this violation, and we highlighted this severe violation on all International and local forums. India has deprived Kashmiris of their basic rights. More than 800’000 Indian forces are oppressing Kashmiri Muslims, and no one is taking notice of that. The Indian media has also been biased and turned a deaf ear to the realities in Kashmir.

16. Syed Ali Geelani
It’s our appeal to the government and the political leadership, and in the name of people of Pakistan; they should make their situation stable. We are asking in the name of God.

God knows better what our future is, but a stable environment in Pakistan is most desirable. Additionally, the progress of Pakistan on ideological basis, the future of Pakistan, and its link to the ideological basis is our heartiest desire.
And for this, we are ready to sacrifice everything.

No doubt, we would insha’ALLAH be free from India, but Pakistan should remain stable, as Pakistan is westernized (occupied with the west), and has been made a colony of America; everything is on the dictation of America, even the change of positions. Seeing Pakistan in such position de-motivates our people, and they start losing hope.

I would say that on every 26th January, we observe black day because it’s India’s democracy day, and those who are in favor of India’s democracy since past 63 years are proved wrong in Kashmir. So on this day, we remind the people of India and the international community about the majority of Jammu Kashmir, India’s invasion, and that we are against this illegal occupation.
And India that pretends to be democratic is proved wrong in Jammu Kashmir, and until it gives independence to the people of Jammu Kashmir and proves that is democratic, we will not accept this day of India and we will not have any relations with India, which it, by force, is expecting from us.

So, we have appealed to mark 26th January as black day, by waving black flags that carry the words “Go India, Go Back.”
And we are hopeful that Insha’ALLAH our nation would act upon our appeal as it is, as they have acted on our requests and appeals on every occasion. And in these 63 years, this nation has sacrificed thousands of precious lives. They have experienced humiliation ands had their villages destroyed. Additionally, around 50 thousand youngsters have been disabled in interrogation centers; they are strung upside down, rolled over with heavy rollers, and are burned with fire or hot rods.

Ten thousand people have been arrested and misplaced in the past 20 years. 2700 of graves have been identified in Kufwara district & Bramble district. It’s not exactly known who are buried in those graves.

All these great and unmatched sacrifices are done by our great nation, and they have been done so that we may be free from India’s illegal occupation.

The international community, especially the 57 Muslim countries and the OIC, all have an obligation to go beyond the written statements that should pressurize India into accepting the demands and birthright of the Kashmiri people. We are hopeful that the government and political leadership of Pakistan will play their role and fully help us to achieve our deserving rights.

17. Akif Saeed – Head of Tanzeem-e-Islami
Today, when we show solidarity with the Kashmiri people, we feel ashamed in front of Quaid-e-Azam, the Kashmir people and most of all, our creator. This is because we are not able to help our brothers in occupied Kashmir, whereas ALLAH has commanded us to do so in Qura’an. Pakistan should either fight for Kashmir with India or openly support the ongoing freedom struggle. Dr.Israr has always advised Kashmiri leaders to instigate a non-violent struggle to achieve freedom from India.
