KARACHI: The Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) on Thursday expressed grave concern over a ban imposed by the federal government on advertisement to the Dawn Media Group, calling it a move against freedom of expression.

In a statement, CPNE president Arif Nizami, senior vice president Imtinan Shahid and secretary general Jabbar Khattak said the policy devised by the elected government was in fact a reflection of dictatorial mindset, which always used government advertisement as a tool against press freedom.

“The elected government should avoid such tactics. The advertisement and other curbs on media do not only affect the workers associated with the industry negatively but they also make a dent on the constitutional right of every citizen,” said the statement.

The body demanded Prime Minister Imran Khan personally intervene in the matter and lift the ban on government advertising to the Dawn Media Group

Ban ads on "Cpne" too.

which always used government advertisement as a tool against press freedom.
LOL! they are not stopping anyone from speaking out, if they were, they would have been throwing these reporters(self claimed journalists) behind bars.

They want to commit treason using taxpayers money? I don't think so. DAWN rightfully deserves the scorn it gets.

I am all for every possible hurdles in the way of Dawn. Advert ban is just a start. It should be shut down.
It is full of traitors who are working against the interests of Pakistan.
Shut the fockers down forever.

The list should be long including TV as well. In this day and age youtube and such platforms will soon be taking the lead. No one would watch stupid TV channels.

Lol, How not giving add is against freedom of expression - it's like ugly and foul mouth prostitute complaining that customers are not giving her business, you want state's money than stop anti-state propaganda.

This is what happens when Media owners treat national security with hubris. I don't care if Dawn goes broke.
