No. Prior to 1947 the land belonged to a colony called British India and was British crown possession and all peoples were subjects of the British crown sat in London. The crown ruled through a British viceroy. Have you ever seen the flag of British India?

British colony or the Raj was dissolved and
shared out to two [three] successor states according to the wishes of the people. Here is a flowchart which should make it conspiciously understandable.
