No they are not, but the mark up of an extra 20% is one of the reasons for inflation. 2% difference is acceptable but over 20% is just pure greed.

Whenever I open my mouth in Islamabad or pindi, the price goes up 20% since my Urdu and Punjabi is rubbish. The only time it doesn't is when I effect a pashtoon accent. But then I don't get served.

Agreed!!! but it is not illegal to charge higher mark up. Here in Sweden, we can buy the same item at very different prices from different retail stores. Normally the smaller shops / supermarkets which are closer to populated areas are expensive while the large departmental stores often located outside populated areas tend to be cheaper..so it is a choice for us to make.

Same should be done by Pakistani people

I believe the same thing is happening here. Here in Karachi, due to a lot of residential areas being designated as commercial, People have knocked down houses to make small supermarkets and they have better pricing on some items than a regular shopkeepers. I don't know if the practice still exists but some years back many pharmacies became wholesalers-retailers which was illegal and were selling medicines at wholesale rate.

Lastly, pricing unless imported should exist for most of the products.

There is a problem with that especially in Pakistan, if one guy is selling it for 1450 and another guy is selling it for 1750, when then first guy finds out he will also put up his price. This happens alot during ramadan time with fruit sellers

Why the **** is he screaming. Its his shop he has the right to ask whatever price he deems fit. If you can't afford it at that price, do go to the shops where you can get them cheaper.

Well there are various ways to ensure that the Ordinary people know the approximate prices of various commodities. Every producer/manufacturer has a "Recommended RETAIL Sale price" of every product they produce or manufacture. Example, a fan manufacturer will provide fans to its authorized distributors/dealers and also "Recommend" a sale price to its distributor/dealer for sale to the general public.

All the Government has to do is to create a Government website, and force all Producers and manufacturers to upload their prices there. In this way, an ordinary person would have a good idea of the price range, and when buying, he can negotiate a better deal for himself.
