Comprehensive video report on Covid-19 situation in India and lies of Indian Govt.

Good reporting. Didn't expect it to be so because of my impression of Shekhar Gupta to be closer to the government line.

This tragedy in India is through a set of arrogances, whether by the government or by the citizens. The last who thought that divinity would save them from COVID which is but another element of Nature which doesn't respect the extent of someone's religious belief. So whether it was the Kumbh Mela or those Pakistani pilgrims who had been to Iran last year who had to be quarantined after their return to Pakistan.

The Indian government should have at least taken the example of Saudia where last year's hajj was allowed only for Saudi citizens AFAIK. Indian government should have disallowed the Kumbh Mela for this year.

Covid actually has great potential for population control in a country like India.
It never made sense to me why countries opted for lockdowns that decimate the economy rather than just let the virus run its course.
Old people are dying, so let them die. Why do we have to shut down the economy and ruin people's livelihoods just so a bunch of old dudes can live a few months longer?

I believe Indians and Pakistanis generally are hypersensitive about religious rituals and there is a reason why both Governments did allow such large gatherings fearing all kind of accusations. I commend Saudi government for they thought about lives of people while they allowed only Saudi Nationals in Ka'aba.

Young people too are dying, from breathlessness and also other complications too I think.

Last year the respectable Indian journalist Ravish Kumar interviewed an Indian-origin doctor in USA who mentioned one case of a healthy wrestler who participated in a match disregarding COVID safety precautions and thus contracted COVID. Whether he died or not I don't remember.

Exceptions prove the rule. Not just young people, most old people will recover from the Covid infection. Recovery rate is something like 99%, much higher in India than in the US.

Well, it seems to be a mix of things. People may recover from it if proper medical care is provided. Recently, the anchor of the music program Indian Idol and two contestants contracted COVID and they recovered and are back on the program. But a news anchor of the pro-Modi AajTak channel died because of heart failure caused by COVID - co-morbidity case.

What seems to be the main problem in India is non-availability of medical care and the logistics of the materials involved. The vid in the OP speaks of a former Indian ambassador dying in a hospital parking area. He died because of lack of oxygen. In the morning there was a report on NDTV about 24 people dying COVID-related death in the southern state of Karnataka. Again they died because of oxygen getting exhausted in the hospital because the tankers somehow couldn't make the tens of kilometers from another town to this town. Logistics problem.

And then there seems to be less availability of Remdesivir and also I think vaccines.

So, many countries have offered to help India with oxygen and medicines.

It seems to be a treatable disease provided the vital things are available on time.
