What is the role of COAS in executing criminals ?
Strange practice,,, isn't it job of home ministry or Judiciary in Pakistan?

They were sentenced by the military court for attacking GHQ. and i think at least 1 belong to the army.

Captured in battlefield as unlawful combatants, the Army can Court Martial them lawfully according to Constitutional - Army Act, they were convicted in FGCM ie (Field General Court Martial), provided council, shown the evidence against them, and allowed to appeal their verdicts.

After all is rejected, they will now be hanged, and as the Judge - a senior Officer puts on the "black cap" and tells the defendant, "may God, have mercy on your soul.".

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has signed the death warrant of six hardcore terrorists, pending execution, by a Field General Court Martial (FGCM), DawnNews reported.

The six terrorists were convicted by a Field General Court Martial (FGCM) in accordance with the law. Sources said that the men are expected to be executed within the next 48 hours.

The announcement comes one day, after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had approved the removal of moratorium on the death penalty after Tuesday’s terrorist attack in Peshawar.

The army chief described the Peshawar school attack as a “ghastly act of cowardice” and said the perpetrators of the attack were “not only enemies of Pakistan but enemies of humanity”.

“They have hit at the heart of the nation, but let me reiterate they can’t in any way diminish the will of this great nation...our resolve to fight terror has taken new height,” the COAS had said.

FGCM is highest level of court martial. It is sanctioned by parliament under Armed Forces Act 1973 and gives power to Army, Navy and Air Chief to give death penalty. Act applies to Armed Forces personnel but can be applied to only those civillians which indulge in attacking with criminal force against military personnel and installation and captured by Armed Forces. Any punishment thus awarded can not be carried out by Armed Forces but by civil authorities.

Similar law with similar powers exists with Indian Armed forces, I believe. It is as per law of Pakistan.

Given the ban on execution of death penality, there wasn't much point in awarding it. They were rather kept locked till now.

Death to terrorists. They can go explain themselves to Allah if they want to, i'd love to see them try and justify their actions infront of him. As$hole Mullahs like Abdul Aziz need to be hanged too, they can go and spread their pathetic garbage in Hell.

A presidential order issued by Zardari in 2008 had imposed a moratorium on the death penalty, just to earn some extra money and make EU happy....

Hang those 8000 Prisoners of Death, save food money, save security money and give this money to Zardari and Nawaz so they can feel shame on their low level act....
